I'll copy what I said in another thread about the integration it was in response to someone talking about change.

"I'd second this Although I welcomed the grill change more, change is a hard thing to adapter to specially when BMW don't change their interiors that often unlike Mercedes.

When ID8 was unveiled I wasn't so sure on it either since there were button removed such as climate and heated seats but I guess time will tell if it that's bad or not?

The other thing that I wasn't so sure on was how the screen was floating however after seeing some videos on the M3 touring I discovered that the drivers side of that dash is integrated in to the dash similar to some current mercs however, when you get towards the centre console that's when it start to float.

Honestly don't think it looks that bad now and I think the ID8 M skin looks great! But again only time will tell if these new changes are great or not! ( I would still like some buttons back though but at least they kept the media controller on the Centre console and the proper shifter in the ZF)"

3:30 is when the interior shown.

If it's a 2023, yes.

It's going to be so easy now to clean/dust the "instrument cluster"

OS to OS, not including visuals or using the controls which are subjective, iDrive 8 is better. There are many improvements from
iDrive 7. For example the Drive Recorder acts more like a dashcam.

I'm sure the OS and features are better. It's the interface that is the problem.

My M3cx was built in the first week of MY23 and even the dealer hadn't seen the ID8. When I first saw the car when ordering I loved the look of all the buttons and ID7 display - space ship like or nasa control room.

I have to learn to live with the ID8 and what I've seen so far has been pretty good if a steep learning curve coming from ID6. Also more processing power and higher resolution.

I'll post pictures and a review when I've had more seat time. At the detailers at the moment.

I’m sure the tech in ID8 is great but I personally do not like the screen look or how it’s not properly integrated into the dash and ‘hidden’ more/cleaner look.

I really love my ID7 so I’m glad I got a 22 with all I want atm but they could of done the big screen better for 23+

This was actually a factor for me when I was ordering. I first thought of getting a G80 but the BMW rep alerted me that my unit would not look like the one i saw, meaning large screen and ID8.

I've already used ID8 in an i4 and iX, and while I do enjoy the new graphics I hate the "no-buttons-do-it-all-through-menus-on-touch-screen" approach. I also do not like the way the giant screen sits on the dashboard, I much prefer the split screens, with an more "traditional" looking cluster.

Long story short, I ordered a G82 instead.

Not sure if it really matters anymore but I was very worried about missing out on ID7 when I wasn’t able to get a ‘22 G80 allocation and I was bumped to MY23. I’ve used ID7 for years and absolutely loved it.

I took delivery of my ‘23 M3CX a little over a month ago and I’m so glad I didn’t end up with a ‘22. Both work well so I don’t think you can go wrong, but after using both I much prefer ID8.

I prefer the cockpit look but during use, I never notice it and the upgrade is pretty substantial. The trade off for looking less like a traditional car in pictures is worth it for me.

I think ID8 looks great from the drivers seat.
Test driving the M4 after ID8 M3 makes the M4 seemed old and dated.
Losing the climate controls buttons sucks.
Everything else I use CarPlay. And CarPlay looks awesome on the new interface.

My G20 has ID7 and my G80 has ID8. I actually really love ID7 and it's design architecture, and wanted the same in the G80 but production issues pushed it to a MY23 with ID8 - which I was dreading. The ID8 screen is a bit overwhelming and the physical design very much feels like an after-thought but after driving the G80 for a couple months now, I'm getting used to it and am actually really enjoying it. A couple gripes I have is that the native Spotify app can be slow and some times it can't even connect. I've already had to do a reset once. All the reviews I've read and seen say that ID8 is snappy and responsive, but it's not. Maybe its just my particular G80 but the ID7 actually feels more responsive. Maybe the ID8 needs a little time to adjust? Crazy enough, when I drive the G20 now, ID7 definitely feels outdated. When I first got it, I was mesmerized and thought it had a huge screen and loved the layout of the Live Cockpit Pro UI design but now, it feels super small after driving with ID8. Either way, I've learned to love ID8 and still love both systems.

It's good to hear people's opinions that have owned both and still don't like ID8. I don't like the looks or lack of buttons, but I can only speak from an internet view and brief test drive view. Hopefully the looks of the next iteration of it will be a little more refined. Sadly, I'm assuming buttons are gone forever though.

So if I get my allocation for an M4 this month or next, it should technically have iD7 still? All this time I was thinking '23 M3 and M4 all had iD8...

M4 switch over happens in March. If your production is scheduled in Feb, you will get iD7.

Oh wow, down to the wire then! I like the idea of newer technology, but I like the older screen setup and the fact that bimmercode is more functional on 7. Fingers crossed I guess!

This is also why I bought the G82.

After coming from an F82 I wanted to switch to a G80 for a bit less hassle with my little one, but I really didn't like the looks of ID8 and lack of practicality.

I have a Tesla Model 3 performance and hate many of the limitations caused by not having buttons...

Anyway, bottom line is, my daughter will have to be extra careful when she gets in my car
