Ditch the pins and crimp on spade connectors and scotchlocks for a secure fit. These can be found at home depot or electrical section of your local auto parts store

J28 Design/BlendMount team is the best. They send me a free replacement.

Also, confirmed with them that the prongs doesn't need to be fully in.

Installed with little issues, and all good now.

Is anyone else having a hard time getting the mirror covers off? I am using a trim tool and cannot get them to separate. Any pics of video? I've watched the one video on youtube over and over and still missing something.

If you don't mind a tiny scratch, you can use a flat head screw driver to wedge between the seam and twist to separate the two pieces apart.
It really doesn't require much force to separate them.

I know you probably figured this out by now but for others. I used a flat trim pick as mentioned. Start at the windshield seam and slowly work back to the mirror. It will pop apart. The seam above the mirror post is tighter but will pop off with steady pressure. Then both clam shells slide out horizontally along the windshield.

What is the purpose of a mirror tap?

Im looking to get a R8 Uniden radar and this will be my first one as well so I have a few questions? Will the mirror tap cause any harm to the cars DAP or Auto high beam pretty much any of those systems? Also im not to tech savvy so I will have it installed is their anything I would need to tell them to do specifically? Finally which mirror tap is the best and would work with the new R8 model? Thanks

I doubt it would interfere with anything as the tap is not modifying anything at all. It's merely "tapping" two cables at the plug.

It's a straight forward install. the hardest part is removing the trim pieces.

I used this tap kit as it's what BlendMount recommended when you type in your vehicle.

https://blendmount.com/power-cord-mt...ry-grade-taps/

and I think I went with the third biggest taps.

I used BR7-3032 on my LCI F90 and the MT-4015 power cord. Works perfectly. Was able to get the pins all the way in without much effort. Total install time ~25 mins, even taking care and redoing the cord placement.

Has anyone had any issues with throwing any codes from the Mirror Tap? After having my installed, I immediately had issues with sensors.

For me, this literally pulled directly down from the front (windshield side) and then slid out from the rear (mirror side). No tools necessary when I did it, but I guess you could use a tool to pry the front. Once that came off, the two side pieces just pulled apart without tools.

(now I'm second guessing myself whether it pulled from the front or the rear, but it still came off quite easily)

On Amazon all the mirror taps look the same. Is there really a difference other than length? Will any of them work just fine? Some are $15 others are like $25.

Did you follow the install video on post 27?

To the people breaking leads trying to plug into the back of the connector, I thought it was a joke, everything was breaking, on the mirror taps I've used on previous detector installs.

I started using needle nose pliers to insert the wire. Goes right in, and I haven't broken a lead in the past 3-4 installs I've done.

Haven't had any issues with codes.....but I did notice my passenger blind spot sensor doesn't seem to work consistently. Not sure of it happened before as I did the mirrortap the day I brought it home. Haha

I had it installed at the same shop that did my PPF and tint. They’ve done a lot of these and also do K40 systems, air suspension, etc. I provided him a link to this thread as well. He said he followed it to a T and even called Blendmount to verify placement. I’m not sure what happened.

Did you get your tint done the same time as your radar detector install? My 21 Accord had a radar cruise control fault, after getting my windshield tinted.

I believe that was one of the errors I had as well…I’m not going to bother for now. I’ve got to have BMW look at an uneven trunk lid for now. For some reason one side is sitting almost a quarter inch higher.
