Good work for Mission!

I'm sure they do not want other tuners, as well as 'tuners', stealing their information and selling it.

This is rampant in other generations of BMWs. When you look at the contents of the 'tuners' you see things that are entirely nonsensical, one line contradicts the contents of another line. Either the 'tuners' are dyslexic or they are copy-pasting stuff from other tunes

Edit: I am not a Mission customer
Edit2: when I write 'tuners', I'm referring to the clowns who do not actually tune anything, just resell other people's software

Are Mission and MHD related?

No worries. I'm looking forward to flash tuning being released for this platform. Piggys are not my thing

Yeah I can’t wait for them to crack the ECU. I wonder if buying larger turbos will do anything, I would think you need to tune them. Reason I ask is I saw a guy on YouTube talking about doing this, left me a little confused.

Update (or lack thereof)

I just called Mission Performance just to see whatsup. I was lucky that Alex himself picked up and he was super nice about everything. I asked him if my G80 AWD which is already made and at the port in Germany will have a potentially different ECU or more locks and he said no. He said there isn't really an update. He has cracked the ECU he said and I do believe him given his credibility (first on F10 and others) but he says he can release it at any time, whether that is now or 'in two years' (I don't think it would actually be that long). It looks like either one of two things needs to happen for us to get flash tuning 1) someone else cracks it and MP and others release it. or 2) the larger tuners who copied Alex's cracking of the ECU before come to some agreement where they won't do that. Maybe I misunderstood the last part as it was hard to hear him on the phone. I'm hoping it is released this year. I will say Alex was super nice about everything on the phone and when he does release it I would totally go with him for my G80.

I just don't understand why someone with a first-to-market opportunity would just sit on it! Yes, getting your work copied and then sold sucks, but guess what?…it's the way of the world. It always has been. When someone has a successful idea, eventually others will take notice and follow.

I think maybe he's thinking there aren't THAT many G8x on the road yet for him to make a large profit quickly before someone else copies his work.

TBH it is not just G8x though. It is all the G series, and late F series as well. That market is probably many times bigger than G8x ever will be, in terms of volume. Lots of people want to tune the lower spec cars too.

I wonder if there are some legal reasons holding them back

Being a first-mover in this market would be huge.

Either there is something else holding them back, or the ECU isn't actually cracked.

This business model makes no sense. Alex should open up the Bosch MAG1 ECU tune for pre-orders, once he hits say 50 or 100 firm paid takers, then tune the ECU. Make your profit and so what if coding is copied.

If an other tuner is able to crack the ECU, don't you think that Alex would also examine that code?

I strongly believe that BMW AG has sent a cease and desist notice, and attorneys are up his , waiting to file a restraining order in federal court. Waiting for an other tuner to release 1st just shifts the liability.

Agreed, getting copied is basically part of the market. The earlier they promote their product the more orders they gonna get. and publicity. Either the ECU is not fully cracked, or there's some legal issue.

He could also be soliciting other tuners to get licensing deals on his method. Versus releasing it into the wild and having them all rip him off.

Is it that easy to copy his work once released?

How does that happen?

Im wondering what the weakest link in the chain is going to be?

We already know the motor is good for over 1,000hp. But what are the limits of the axles and the clutches? And for us xDrive people, the transfer case, and front axles.

Time will tell. Hopefully sooner than later people can start making some real power with these new models. Can't wait=)

I'm saying I would be happy with 700 wheel, but after modding cars for over 25 years, we always want more. I cant tell you how many times I've bought a bigger turbo, only to want one even bigger in 6 months. I went through it with DSMs in the 90s, and again with Evos. We're never happy.

I hear you brother! I want fast and reliable. I will never have the fastest car for sure. I also don't want to be repairing it 6 months out of the year. 700 should be a breeze now a days. Good luck

True, 700 xDrive would be a weapon. Anything in the 10s on the street, at like 135-140 trap speed, would be insane.
