I want to upgrade the air breathers on my G80 order to the M Performance carbon fiber version. It's available on the BMW Individual Visualizer, and in the US it's a "Port Installed" option. My dealer is telling me he has to buy the part and have it installed after the car arrives from Germany, so I have to pay for a full part plus labour to install it, instead of just an upgrade cost.

Anyone in Canada try upgrading this part?

i think in Canada, nothing is installed at port. instead, the parts are ordered and installed at the dealer, that is why it is parts plus labour...

Yup, can't order M Performance parts from factory or port installed like the US, I tried doing this with multiple dealerships, also can't residualize M Performance parts on a lease like the US either.

Just buy the parts separately. The air breather side set you can install yourself. Literally took me no more than 30 seconds each side to pry the old ones off and push the M Performance ones in. I just used a plastic pry tool wrapped in a thin microfibre towel to pry off the standard ones.

If you want it for delivery, I also recommend you have a separate bill with the parts department, I don't recommend adding it to your purchase bill now, because it will be added in to your total vehicle price which is subject to the luxury tax now.

Thanks for the advice. Good point about luxury tax - will definitely order them separately. Crazy how you can't do anywhere near as much in Canada as in the US. Even tracking the status of your build online can be done with ease in the US, but of course not in Canada. It's ridiculous.

Yup! Even the BMW FS interest rates here compared to US is crazy. Far more expensive here to get a BMW with far less service received.

Parts like these, that are cheaper to ship. I like to get them directly from Germany, so, you don't get taken. Unless the import duties in Canada, are ridiculous, they can be had much cheaper from Germany. And nothing looks as good as the real thing.

Looks awesome! Import duties in Canada are outrageous. However the quote I received from my dealer to procure these for me is reasonable so I will get them from the dealer directly.

What’s the install like on these? Just a trim tool to pop off and snap the new ones in?

Yes, very easy. 3 clips. The forward edge has 3 L shaped clips that tuck in behind the fender and the rear has 3 white clips that you just push forward as you’re trying to remove the grille off of the car. So, if you’re facing it while removing it, the aft section has the 3 clips. And watch out, because half the time the white clips go flying. If you buy the new OEM ones, they come with new clips. Then just snap them back in, in reverse order. Forward side first. Press flat and snap the rear section down.

The link added the VAT for some reason. They’re $395 CAD, actually. $293 USD each.

I bought a pair of these off eBay. Don’t have the link and installed them myself. Think I paid around $250 maybe. They look great!

That's good to know. Some people find these nicer than the full CF version, which looks a bit flat compared to what you did. The good thing is I can add this on any time.
