Carbon seats review - highlight of the G80!

So I finally got to test out the carbon seats and the only thing you need to know about them is if you don’t get them, you might as well order an M340! I did not care much about the carbon seats until the moment I sat in them and was actually going to order the standard seats with cooling! I am a bigger guy, 175cm, about 200+ pounds and I found the seats to be the perfect fit for my body and extremely comfortable (obviously that might not be the case on long journeys but they are so awesome that I just don’t care!) Once you sit in them, the car transforms around you and feel completely different and more exotic!

To be honest, I did not expect to like those carbons so much and since there are a lot of reviews on here about how supportive and nice looking those seats are, every single one of them fail to mention that those seats make the car feel 10 times more exotic and violent when you drive it. I think every M3 should come standard with the carbon bucket seats. This is how this car was meant to feel from the beginning, and the standard seats just don’t give you the savageness that this car is made for! Definitely, 100% worth every single penny!

lol, I will let you know after I live with this car for a year but at this point, it’s a no brainer option and as I said should be standard... I mean, why would you want the M3 if you are not looking for the thrill of driving? 🤔

So not the engine, the handling, the quality or even the front end...???

I have to disagree tho. I too love their look and form but...

For a daily use car (which a lot of the g8x's will be) with kids n wife sometimes In, used for 5 hour journeys down the UK (LL infer sometimes with our garbage infrastructure), for owners like me who are 50+.... They are not the "only" way to go.

They are a great seat. But even for younger crowds who commute and don't wish to always be gracefully sliding in and out, the sport seats are great.

Jenson Button did order his GT2RS with sofa seats after all and not the LWBS.

It's a tough debate. I've spent some time in them and agree they feel great plus looks are killer, but do I want them on my daily? And at that price? They certainly are not an option you can add later for a small price penalty (I would guess $5k per seat) and if you regret them, can you find someone to swap + cash in the right color? There is no way to get out of them without dragging across the thigh bolster so who knows what wear they will take. Lord help you if you have coupe doors and park in a tight parking spot.

But so tempting!

Absolutely, I agonised for 2 weeks as heart said just order them and you will find a way to live with them.
But in the end, looks aside, 99/100 uses I don't need to be held in place that snugly. As a Dad of 2 and with a wife that likes to loll about on long journeys, the standard seats (which are great btw) fit my needs better 99% of the time.
Cost never came in to it tbh. But I added the full leather in to make up for not adding the seats. As soon as my build was locked in I stopped agonising and realised I was 100% (well 99%) happy with final spec.
2 weeks to delivery

if you need to get in and out of your vehicle multiple times a day .. i will say the CF buckets will be a challenge in terms of ingress and egress..

by now we have enough data points to support that the seat is shockingly comfortable so thats not the main issue. My personal technique of pushing arms against door sill and center armrest as lever to get my body out of leg bolster is not what you would call "day to day" friendly

Think of it as a forced exercise making you stay in shape in the process 💪😅. I have no issues with getting in and out and I am lazy as hell!

One of my main considerations for the bucket seats are that they are less bulky than the standard ones, saving a decent amount of leg room for the little ones in the back.

But you may be right, might not be worth it for the other 99% of the time...

I ordered mine with the CB seats. It definitely evolves the car into a sportier animal. If ingress/egress and long journey comfort are the main priorities, might as well get an m340i.

Not if you want an m3 tho buddy. Here in the UK 99% are used as daily cars. There are way better "track day cars" imo. Having used v8v, v12v, DBs, and m3's daily I have no problem. And if you think the M3 is purely a hoon car, why are they bothering making a touring?
But in the end it's all about choice, choice re car re spec and how you want to enjoy life in general.

Exactly my case...I know for all practical reasons I should not be getting the carbon buckets but they just look so damn good and set the interior onto another level.

Hard agree here - saying "if you don't want seats that are hard to get into and make your passengers hate your guts then get a nerfed car" is crazy reductive.

I'm sure most of you would change your mind if the CB seats was a no charge option 😅

Nope, cost had nothing to do with it, added full leather in once I decided against the buckets... Purely intended use decision.
And also didn't fancy bolster wear and the squeeking that 2 owners are already hating

Might be true for you, hence why I said most. I think most are trying to justify to themselves that they don't need it, but would choose it and rave about it if it was free (or cheap). I am guilty of the same. I was previously trying to justify to myself that the Carbon Fiber Exterior is unnecessary and that the black gloss trim looks comparable.

I ordered base seats and never had a second thought. No justification here; don't care if they were free. I like the base seats and I wanted a Fiona Red interior. I'm glad those that like the buckets can get them but I don't think the "most people" generalization holds.

Cost has nothing to do with it for some of us. But comfort does. Full leather is more expensive in Canada. Some prefer a more luxurious spec while others want it to be the sportiest.

I'm thinking of developing something to protect the bolster from the aggressive wear and tear I know is on the horizon for this thing.

Honestly I'd have been happy with either seat but damn...

These seats are the move,, they really set the interior off

Everything about them is absolutely sick.

And mine are squeak free as an added bonus
