Can I turn off Active Sound?

So what's the deal with Active Sound Design? Is it finally defeat-able?

Also how is the sound system? I haven't been thrilled with past BMW HK audio.

I thought they had finally done it correctly where they give you the button to turn it off inside, unfortunately that also sort of turns it off outside as it closes the valves. I hate AS and they need to give us an option to disable it. The only time I could really see wanting to use it would be if I had a friend naive to its existence riding with me and wanted to impress them with how cool my engine sounds. Otherwise it's just me thinking the car sounds super cool, but since I'm the only one hearing it's kind of all in my head.

If that's how they did it, it totally misses the point. Turning off Inside is getting rid of the fake sound. But ditching it outside is turning off real engine sound.. Duh.. I really cant believe they did it this way. Do they not differentiate between authentic engine/exhaust sound, and that which is artificially dubbed ?

My car is still on the boat but as I understand it, yes, that's how they did it. So dumb.

Yup can confirm, turning it off also shuts the valves. Tbh it actually sounds good with it on. But I understand it’s not for everyone, I will probably just disconnect the valves with it on. That should keeps the valves open and then just turn it off with switch and that will stop the sound being piped in

I believe it 'sounds' good with it on. I used to think that was the engine that everyone I was driving by was hearing and I was thinking how cool my car was. That was until I realized it was all (mostly) in my head inside the car. They need to give the option as I said control the valves and control the AS inside the car INDEPENDENTLY.

Also sounds much better and less drony than in my M2, I'm fine with the combined button.

It's differently better than F8x gen, but I still want mine off. Hope there are solutions coming soon.

In another post here someone said they were able to turn it off with Bimmercode, even though it doesn't officially support the G8x yet

Has anyone successfully coded it off? I used the bimmercode app as in the video. It’s seems to turn off the ASD. confirmed in the app and its “not active” but I haven’t heard any difference. The speakers still buzz and I hear that synthetic video game sound coming out of them. Do you think i need to wait for proper support? I will gut out the speakers if it doesn’t work.

I could tell a difference but my car seems louder than before with ASD on. I can hear more of the engine and a little turbo sound under hard driving.

I just did it last week, and I can hear the difference.

In "economy" mode (whatever the quietest throttle setting is in your country) I can barely hear a difference when I press the exhaust button ("M exhaust mode"?) whereas before there was a noticeable change. At idle.

In "performance" mode (loudest throttle setting) it sounds better, that fake noise coming through the speakers was giving me a bit of a headache.

It's possible that you didn't select the right option, or forgot to click "code" or had an earlier version of software. I would try again.

I will add that it did not make a huge difference to me.

I just did this last night and agree any change is pretty subtle. I was not sure I did it correctly but the Bimmercode app says "Not active".

It's definitely not any quieter in the higher sport settings.
