As a data point I just ran a quote based on a G80 M3 VIN that's on the market and Geico quoted me approx $2,160 per year ($180 per month) for a 2021 G80 M3 with MSRP $80k. I'm 40 and have a clean driving record, no claims & no tickets. I specified that the M3 is for "pleasure" and I'll drive 5k miles per year which is realistic for me.

That's a bump of $103 per month over my 2014 F30 335i and to be honest I was expecting closer to half that increase

I also jump between Geico & Progressive every couple of years as they increase their prices and you get a better offer when you switch. I guess I'll be doing more insurance shopping when I'm ready to pick up my G80.

Try farmers, when I put in numbers for pretty decent coverage ($250k/$500k) it comes to $1,700/year before any multi policy discounts, which make a big difference. That's in California which is expensive as ass to insure in as well.

Generally I get an umbrella coverage for next to nothing to cover house/car etc., and then get the lowest possible cover for the car/house to cover the buyout for the umbrella. That's generally the most cost effective way of doing it if you're rolling in a few policies. Combined with a decently high deductible for the car ($5k or something), that generally makes it not bad.

Thanks! Yes I'll try Farmers and others before I get my coverage. By the way I'm at $500 deductible so I may need to bump that up with the G80.

My current M4 which is $1220 every 6 months

Sadly, yes. The 18 is my second M4, and both were significantly more than my '12 E93 M3.
I see you are in the NYC area. That'll be a significant reason for high insurance costs. When I moved down from NYC to northern VA about 18 months ago, my insurance reduced by about 30% on the same car.

Not complaining about the cost, just stating how much higher the new M4 is like others have noticed. It was also interesting to see that the new M3 is less than my F83 by quite a bit.

It did, and I am not surprised by the sudden increase in car insurance since I have read a lot of articles about it before it took place.

Damn, thats some pretty high insurance rates. When I had my M4 last year, I was paying about $850 per 6 months with progressive (33 years old, pretty solid driving record).

I sold it last year to get into a 2021 Supra.. and I was shocked I was only charged $420 for 6 months. Guess I know it'll be about triple when I make the eventual switch to the G8X

G80C is more than my 720... same low deductibles and clean record. 🤷🏻*♂️

It's also more than my e90 m3, and f90 m5... although less than f85 x5m.

USAA quoted me $1564/year. Wow. And that's with a multi car discount, clean driving record as well as my homeowners insurance with them. In contrast my $35k Jeep Cherokee is $700/year.

that's going from my 2019 X5 50i M Sport to the G80 AWD. I got the quote out of curiosity since my car won't be here until August
How much annually for it?

Just for the M car or with the Jeep?

Only you on the policy, and are you younger in age? I have a very similar priced Jeep, and with the M4C quoted in at $1700/yr, $500k/1mil 300/500 comp/coll deductibles. and medical and wage earner benefit maxed. Just myself. How many miles did you give them? With the Jeep as DD my miles are minimal... just 3k each. Multi-vehicle, homeowners, etc. like you. Length of USAA membership is way up there too. I could lower the cost a bit by lowering some of those coverages, but it didn't make that much difference.

Yea, similar story. Only me on the policy. I'm 48, been with USAA since I was 16. $1564 just for the BMW. I think my deductible is $1000. I learned that 2 years ago after my trunk popped open as it randomly did and I had $1200 stolen out of it. Thanks BMW. A known issue that they theoretically fixed. I told USAA 6k miles for the Jeep 7k for the BMW.

Yeah, I think it had something to do with that stupid kick sensor to open it... which I think (hope) is gone. It worked great when you were near it, but not when you really needed it!

No idea about those rates though. Maybe where you live? Just guessing now.

It's not all about MSRP and HP, my M8 is 30% cheaper to insure than my M3 was on the same policy.

As Pantagathus mentions, things like this are likely the reason:

How it's listed on policy; multi vehicle etc.

Where you live... Manhattan, Brooklyn, Westport ct

Licensed drivers in the house hold.

My insurance went up when my son got his license even though he had no car at the time and was in college 4 1/2 hours away in another state

The kick sensor stopped working when I put the CF diffuser on. I think I heard it still exists on the new models?

Sure, personal situations like that will obviously change the rate from one individual or situation to another. When you're strictly talking about car A vs car B with all other factors remaining the same, there are risk factors that could make car A greater or less than car B aside from power and MSRP, though.
