Higher insurance rate?

Did anyone else's insurance dramatically increase when they added their G80 to their insurance? If so, by how much?

Mine did, well that's what I was quoted. Don't have my car yet. I am due for renewal next week, shopped around and switched to a new provider. I shop around every six mo anyway.

I actually don't know yet. When I called my Agent's office about the car, it didn't yet exist in their automatic underwriting software. So we'll see, I guess.

I got a quote to replace my X3 M40i with the incoming G80 and Geico wants over $600 more per 6 month term.

I'll definitely start shopping around as time gets closer to actually putting it on my policy.

I haven't received my car yet, but got a quote already using my VIN. Like others have said the insurance company couldn't give the most accurate quote yet due to the vehicle being so new but what they did give me is inline with what I thought it would be. Hopefully when the official number comes it won't shock me, but I would assume it will be close.

Also, the difference between a comp and a manual may make a difference as I have a manual but with the comp being above 500 HP it will most likely be more as insurance companies really start hitting hard over 500 HP.

Geico quoted me $350 more every 6 months on an M4C over what I paying for my 2018 M4.

This was using a VIN - without a VIN it was $400 less than my current car.

Edit - an M3C is $300 less than my current M4.

'18 M4 - $1220
'21 M4C - $1570
'21 M3C - $940

Mid 40s, clean driving record

It is an $80-90k car. That's expensive to insure. What are you comparing to or coming from?

Wait, are you saying it's over $3K a year to insure that car? That's madness.

It wasn't in my brokers computer yet either, but they quoted me approx $875/yr. with the vin I gave. I also get a discount for multi car and they do my homeowners as well so have to take that into consideration.

Sadly, yes. The 18 is my second M4, and both were significantly more than my '12 E93 M3.

So I have four cars on my policy at Progressive, as well as 4 drivers (including a teenage driver). The premium for my 2020 M2C was about $1100 a year. It will go up to a little over $1500 a year when I replace it with the M3C. Value of the car is about $30K more than my M2C, so that seems pretty reasonable to me. Of course, I'm 55, so my rates are probably considerably lower than you young guys.

USAA here, I got a quote and it's $145 more for 6mo but I have a clean driving record and max coverage/lowest (none of allowed) deductibles

that's going from my 2019 X5 50i M Sport to the G80 AWD. I got the quote out of curiosity since my car won't be here until August

Sub-100k, it doesn't make too much difference. It's more about the type of vehicle.

My 2011 E92 is about $600 for 6 months and the G80 was quoted to be around the same. My wife's Volvo XC90 was a little over 70k. It needs a new windshield every year ($0 deductible) and it's been in one minor hit and run where a front corner was scraped up with 3-4k in damage. It costs us $150 per 6 months to insure for the last couple of years since new.

The safety ratings and overall number of expensive accidents (in terms of injury) play a large part of of the insurance cost. M3/M4s are more likely to be in accidents where injuries are likely, thus the expensive costs.

USAA here too, older, and clean driving record. My '18 M3 was only around $400 for 6 months. I just did a quick quote for the new M4 comp coming in June and it was actually about the same! (I guess one of the few things where being a bit older is a positive! )

I did mine as a 2022 MY due to getting AWD. I'm not quite 'old' yet so maybe that's why. I haven't had a ticket since I was 19 (knock on wood) however, I do have a stack of warnings

It's crazy. I realized I've been switching back and forth between two companies every couple of years as my rates will creep up a bit, and they'll offer me a discount in switching.

Wow, the figures being mentioned on this thread (even for F80/F82s) makes me feel pretty good at my latest renewal being just under £600 for 12 months cover.

I'm late 40s with a clean history and no claims over the last 7 years. My policy has a £350 total excess (deductable as you call it in the US), includes a rental car if mine's off the road, although this is my only car and my annual mileage is pretty low.

It's not all about MSRP and HP, my M8 is 30% cheaper to insure than my M3 was on the same policy.

As Pantagathus mentions, things like this are likely the reason:
