Differences between Full and Extended leather?

Hello everyone. New member here looking to get into an M3. I have a question about the interior option.

When selecting the interior color/leather options, other than the leather stitched dash and color matching underside of the dash that changes in the configurator, are there any other differences between the materials of the seats for the extra $2550?

I plan to head to one of my local dealers to see in person since the BMW configurator doesn't really do a great job of explaining. Both of my local dealers are also waiting on more cars to arrive so there are none to look at in person right now.

Anyone have any pictures of the "base" dash option? I'm assuming the materials are the same as the standard 3 series.

Thanks!

No, to my understanding the seats and door cards are still merino leather. The full leather option gives you additional merino leather on the dash and on the top of the doors.

I didn’t go with the full, but kind of wish I did.

Thanks. I really want to see how it looks in person. We went full leather dash and upper door cards with my wife's XC90 as it was a pretty significant difference in look and feel. For this type of car I'm not sure if I'd need it, especially for the $2500. That's a good amount of money I can throw toward the Carbon buckets.

I ended up getting an HEA that had it, but wouldn't have paid for it. I feel like it'll be harder to maintain, and I don't know that I really notice enough of a difference to warrant it. If you are getting a non-black interior then that color carries over to other places, so I could see it being worth it then, but on a black interior I don't really notice it

Depending on the color interior you might want to opt for it. If you’re going all black it’ll just blend right in.

The difference between an xc90 that doesn't have it and yours is essentially the same with the M3.

To me it was a must have as the dash is basically always in my face as I drive. I made the mistake of not ordering it on a couple of past cars and won't repeat it .

Extended leather is only the top of the door panels above the trim piece. Full leather goes to the bottom of the doors both front and rear, and then upper and lower dash as well as others have said. It's a ton more leather square footage wise.

The dash and door window pieces are very bumpy plastic rubber and don't seem to fit the car IMO without the full leather. It's the same as my M340i. I'll be choosing full leather unless I end up having to really cost cut somewhere.

I like the full leather option on the Carbon seats, adds a little class to the cool.

The real question is...does that extended leather package bring the leg/knee pads on the center console?

The G80 I sat in at the dealer had those and it would kinda suck to loose them from factory. Wish I would have taken a picture of the sticker.

It would be nice if the BMW website would explain any of this. Same with the executive, parking and other packages. No breakdown of what is in each package. I had to search here to find a breakdown.

I had selected it and then ultimately removed it for other packages. I was concerned about maintaining and the effects of the strong Florida sun over time.

Yes! BMW USA marketing sucks. They added some interior colors too, but still not on the configurator

Get a clear tint for your front windshield. I got full leather on my 2015 F80 and it still looks great!

In looking at the configurator, using the side view before you click on the interior to get the 360 view, it looks like both extended and full leather has the knee pad. Makes sense that they wouldn't take away the knee pad in the higher spec.

I'd get the full leather if the lower dash were in black like the upper. I'm getting the Silverstone interior and don't love the grey on the lower dash.

Does anyone who took delivery recently know for certain ?

Maybe the configurator has it wrong. But you're prolly right

Mine has full leather. It is a crapload more leather compared to normal, most of the surfaces are leather (including top of dash etc.). If you get full leather in a color, some of it (like top of dash) will always be black, while other parts will have the color you picked (silverstone or whatever). Really depends on how much you like leather and what you're willing to spend for it.

Mine's an HEA, I wouldn't have picked the full leather personally, but looking at I can see why it is an expensive option, it is a lot of extra leather.

Sat in a full leather G8X and it definitely had the knee pads in leather.

The dash looks cheap with that textured plastic on it instead of leather IMO. It is a lot of extra stuff to condition for routine maintenance though so depends on how much you enjoy interior detailing.

I am surprised by the amount of expensive builds that skip full leather.

Yeah I wouldn't go without it myself. I sat in a G80 without it this weekend and while it wasn't horrendous it just doesn't feel as upscale. Basically makes you feel like it's a nice $45k-$50k car not something $70k+.
