I don't see how anyone can come away after watching that and think that they're comparable in power in any way. Every time the M4 got traction, it reeled in the M440i hard. Big difference.

M4C puts down nearly 100 more hp to the wheels than the M440i does in crank hp. It's not close.

I hope you're not serious because the M4 showed that it's a MUCH faster car in Joe Achilles' video. Yes the xDrive on the M440i makes it launch faster and sometimes is enough for it to win a drag race but the M4 was reeling him in and showing the 100+ whp difference. Such difference should've been very obvious to the "reviewer" in the video posted by the OP.

Did you watch the 2nd run at 12:10? The M4 had a decent start and was clearly a couple of car lengths ahead at the 300m finish line so the difference will be even more obvious if this was a full quarter mile or 400m.

If you're trying to compare the launch of an xDrive M340i/M440i vs. RWD M3/M4 I'm not interested in that discussion. We can cross that bridge when the M xDrive M3/M4 are tested.

Is the width of the G82 M4 rear the same as the regular 4 series? I believe the F82 is the same as the f32. It looks like it in the video.

No, both the F82 and G82 are wider than their base cars (front and rear).

Yeah, you are right about the F82. I remember this video:

I hope someone makes something similar for the G80/82.

That Joe achilles is alright. When I saw him on those carwow videos I wasn't a fan, but his videos are pretty good IMO.

He talks about about the front end grip. The M4 has a 275 front tire vs a 225 I believe for the M440. Wonder how much that front end grip is due to tire versus just the suspension setup.

The G8X also has a 1.4" wider front track than the G22. That is quite significant.

I guess that settles that, does it feel like an M440i? Nope.

M440i, oh it feels heavy, understeer, understeer, it’s heating up and getting sloppy.

M4, the front end grip! Oversteer, the speed! Not one negative word.
Is it still a proper M3/4 that feel at home on a circuit? Sure seems like it.

I thought the new G8x has better traction using launch control. Looks like it really needs AWD to put all the power to the ground. I am surprised it actually lost one race to M440i and the other race was pretty much a tie.

It has good traction but not nearly to overcome the gap to AWD. The M4 AWD should take off as a complete jackrabbit using the improved rear wheel traction and adding the front wheels.

And not even the AWD should be anywhere near putting all the power down from a standstill. Just as the RWD it will be controlled by LC.

At least not in that short run. It was a 5th of a mile and he wouldn't have needed much more space to come past.

The RS4 vs. M4 vs. C63 race showed the same results. AWD shows its value early, not late.

Edit: I've started to really feel that 0-60 runs and 1/4 runs are too short for modern cars to really shake out what they can do.

Yes with overcome AWD I meant the actual launch. An AWD car jump off the line in a way a similar RWD front engine car can’t match.

Btw this is just the kind of slow winding little circuit that is brutal to cars this large and heavy and mercilessly reveal the impact leaving them red faced with the pants down which is pretty much what happened to the M440i while real M..agic left the M4 standing proud.

This was pretty interesting actually. Only downside is the M440i had crap tires vs the M4. Regardless it seemed the M4 had a much easier time changing direction on this twisty track.

You are replying to the guy that did not figure out how to push an M3 beyond 4,000 RPM during the test - therefore, was not impressed by the G80 performance

Full quarter mile wouldve been fine g8x wouldve taken all 3 races despite the track being wet and squaring off with an awd car. OP clearly has an agenda in the summer/fall when an awd vs awd comparison is possible the G8x is going to absolutely demolish the m440i

It's great and say a lot on the extra bits and bobs M cars have over the normal cars.
