Never watched this guy before but if he wasn't really feeling the 100+whp difference between the 2 cars I'm not sure what's going on. Maybe the S58 vs. B58 difference is not that obvious lower in the revs and that's where he's making his conclusions?

I think he didn’t say it’s slow just wasn’t as impressed as some people claim.

Is he trolling? I was becoming more and more unsure on his opinion as the video went on until he said it sounds better than the M3, then I just turned it off.

Sound like a bee in a tin can with a megaphone to me. The M3 isn't winning any sound awards but it's so much more guttural and low than the raspy M340i.

The M3 to me sounds like it’s full of water inside. The m340i sounds aggressive and exciting.

Fair enough. I'd need to hear them for real, it's only going to sound as good as the mic and playback device in this case. The M3 was too bassy once they opened the valves on it, the raspy M340i stayed pretty level, not sure if it has an option as I'm not too clued up on it?

We all have different opinions on it. I get it. I heard one in person the other day, I wasn’t impressed by it. My 335i sounded better

Oh for sure, not saying I'm wrong or right at all, I appreciate the discussion. I will say I'm excited to hear it without all the EU restrictive crap they do to the exhaust by replacing it. The EU are so adamant about ruining engines and sounds before they inevitably get replaced. It's so sad. I'm guessing you have E 335i? Great car!
It'll never be V8 or even V6 level but I think it should sound great still.

Yep!

But you're the one trolling a G8X board venting about how much you hate the thing.

We get it Bro. It's not for you. Not sure how many minds you're going to change here. See you during the next platform in 2028? Electric powered 4 banger's going to sound great!

Yeah. I think I read somewhere that there's even a decibel rule coming soon that will force cars to be even quieter.
Could be worse though, you can't even rev an Audi or a Porsche nowadays

2 things:

1) The M340i in this test is the Canada-exclusive M-Performance Edition. It's nearly $20k more than a regular M340i. It has an M-Performance exhaust; no surprise that it sounds great, and possibly better than a stock M3C.

Here's the car he drove:

https://www.performance-bmw.com/vehi...sale_class=new

2) He literally never shifts the M3C above 4000RPM. In fact, at 15:13, the non-track view appears to show the rev limiter set to 4000RPM (screenshot attached). This is consistent with the car not allowing him to downshift into 4th at highway speeds.

In the M340i, he took it to redline multiple times without issues. Clearly, the M3C is in some sort of transit/valet/limp mode.

Anyone who has driven this car can tell you that the new M3 is significantly faster than an M340i. The overall drive is on another level; you definitely don't get "faster M340i" vibes. Go drive one for yourself.

This guy should redo the review with the M3C "unlocked".

It did seem really weird! He was flooring it and was barely doing anything, once he got out of 2nd gear it basically ran like a car with a 3rd of the horsepower.

Does the G80 have reduced power when low on fuel ?
Maybe it could be the case here ?

No. I skipped to him driving the M3 at half throttle to 4K rpm and then to him flooring the M340i and saying it was quicker and turned it off. The guy should have gotten used to the car before filming to make sure it was 100%.

The M340i is a great car, and it's plenty fast, but there is clearly something up with the M3 he's got.
