Color Palette Appreciation Post

I think you have to give it to BMW with this one. G8x has one of the nicest color palettes I've ever seen. I must imagine that choosing the right color is immensely difficult. For me, I cannot make my mind between the following ones:

IOMG, Brooklyn Gray, Skyscraper Gray, Tanzanite, Toronto Red, BSM, and Dravit.... tooo many good options.

I made exactly the same comment to my dealer. Hats off to BMW for the chosen colors. The color decision has never been as hard as with the new G80.

In the end, I chose IOMG over TB II and TR. 👍🏻

I agree. The color and the wheels were the hardest choices for me.

I was so frustrated with IOMG because in some pictures/videos it looks incredible and in others it's too straight up green. Another minor mark against IOMG for me was that I think a lot of G8x cars will be sold in this color.

I thought Toronto Red was an obvious 'no' but then pictures of real cars started showing up and wow. I don't recall seeing a BMW red that I've liked anywhere close to Toronto Red.

Oxide gray and Dravit gray are also amazing.

SPY and Brooklyn gray don't do it for me.

I too concerned about upkeep on a black car so BSM is out, too, despite the fact that a totally blacked out G80 looks as mean as Mr. T.

In the end I landed on Tanzanite Blue II after deciding I didn't want to take an $80K gamble on IOMG. This is the darkest car I've ever owned and I hope it's not pretty much the same as black regarding paint detailing/upkeep.

Lastly, I think an otherwise blacked out Frozen White would be amazing, too.

+ 1 Totally echo your sentiments. I kept going back and forth between the two. But seeing as this is something I will see day in and day out; I too ended up on the conservative side. I don't think we will be disappointed though. An X4m in TBII was following me last weekend and the color was stunning.

I agree, the entire line up of colors at launch for this gen is really good. There is a little bit of everything for everyone whether it is bold, classics, or the usual M array.

I myself have been a fan of several of them but SPY caught my attention from the very beginning (I like bold!) and I'm taking the chance on ordering it, especially after seeing it in person. Now I just have to hope that SPY with Yas Marina isn't a combo I get tired of in a couple of years.

Non-metallic Cinnabar Red from the 80s is still my favorite BMW red. The Melbourne Red on the F30s was ugh. Too tomato-y. I'll have to see the Toronto Red in person to assess.

I'm at least a year away from ordering a G80 so I hope additional colors are added to the standard portfolio vs the extra expense of Individual paints.

I've had three neighbors come over just to get a closer look at my IOMG M3. One of them I had never spoken to in our 4 years in this house. Only one of them has much of an idea what an M car is...it was all about the color.

Truly a great selection to choose from. About the only color missing is a purple.

They really did do a good job of providing colors that pop on this car.

Unfortunately BMW completely dropped the ball on interior colors. Where's the saddle or a variant thereof? Where are the combo colors like black/white, black/red, black/blue, etc. This is as sporty a car BMW makes but the interior lacks all pizzazz

You can argue there's too many pizazz options as silverstone and black are the only colors that are on the normal side. I do think a red option is missing.

They could have come up with better blue options than they did. Forced me to go custom. YMB on the F82 was nice and unique. PB which is a close relative of Estoril isn't as unique. I'm not even necessarily talking about the fact that it's also on the 3/4's, but just that that basic color has been on standard cars for the last 6 years or so.

I agree they could've offered another blue but I saw PB in person on a G80 and I like it. The color really suits the car IMO.

Agreed. I went to check one out last week, after seeing IOMG. Not gonna lie the blue is pretty tempting. Something about the IOMG, though.

Yep excellent colour options for the G80/82. One of my gripes with the F87 was the limited colour choices.

Guessing you'd get near unanimous agreement on this one, they've done a good job this go around.
