Test drove a G82 today with the buckets. Comfort was better than when I sat in them for 10 minutes in the showroom and I could easily live with them. This is a different conclusion than I had after first trying them. Unfortunately my wife will refuse to ride in the car if I get them plus they would not be great for clients getting in and out so I will be sticking with the standard seats if I order a G80.

I've sat in the CF seats as well.

While they look flash as hell, they're simply not meant for big people. Not "fat" people, but big people in general.

I'm 6'4" with a decently wide frame, and the width of the bolsters on the seat bottom hold you in so tightly it made it a challenge to work the 3 pedals.

When my wife saw the seats, she initially said "omg those look aggressive and intimidating!"

Funny thing is after taking a few rides with me, she admits she falls asleep faster in the CF seats versus our family SUV, due to the "comfy hugging" the seats gave her. So with that said, she's given me her official blessing

After a month in the base seats, I can't imagine wanting any other seats. I rode in my SO's 530e yesterday across a crap ton of city traffic, most of the way across the metro on a busy Saturday afternoon, to get my first vaccination shot. It was the first time I'd spent any time in his car since trading in my M2C and a complete reversal from how comfortable his car was to ride in compared to my M2.

He has the upgraded comfie seats in his car and they're no where near as nice to sit in for an hour as the base seats in the M3/M4. For still-well-bolstered "sporty" seats, the base seats are just absolutely a win. Seat comfort over time has been a huge negative in my 8 years of owning BMW's, I haven't been happy with the seats in any of my BMW's, and that's come to an end. BMW finally got them right.

Sat in both for a good while. The standards seats are probably some of the best I've ever sat in, no doubt about it.

The carbon seats looks gorgeous but for me at least they are hard to live with. Hard to get into and hard to get out of with your dignity intact. For ladies it's an even worse idea as you are going to have to effectively climb over the seat bolster everytime while facing the outside. That said sitting in them isn't bad at all and I'm a tall and rather massive/athletic guy (not fat). 1,90m (6 foot 3 inches aprox) and weigh around 100 kg (220 lbs aprox). Overweight people will struggle with carbon seats imo but the standard ones will be fine.

i am about 6'2 225 and currently am driving a GS F with the sport bucket seats. Those have curvy bolsters but no where near what the m3 carbon fiber seats have. Just wondering how hard it will be to get in and out of those seats. I need to find a video of someone just getting in and out of those. I don't think i can get this car without those seats. Yes they look that great!

You really really need to try them out if you can. Getting in is easy. Getting out is a variable experience.

my dealer doesn't have any carbon fiber seats in stock. he said they are not allowing test drives on the m3 or m4 as of yet. I am going to put a deposit in on an AWD that they really can't order yet so I need to figure out all the options I want.

I've got my seat presets done up to where in setting 2 the seat goes all the way back and and flat and it really makes exit 80% easier.

If you have proper seating position it's not the most graceful entry or exit.

Seats are worth every penny if it's not your daily.

I spent much of today in the standard seats and the are very comfortable. Much nicer than my 2014 335i. Miles nicer, really

So.....

...I had a chance to sit in the carbon buckets today at Riverside BMW. Having sat in them, I can completely understand the ingress/egress comments. Once in them, however, they are comfortable and snug. The seats are not ideal if you're carrying extra weight or are large in stature. I'm a muscular 5'10" and the seats are at the limit for my back size/width; my waist isn't an issue since it's average for a fit person at my height (...31"). When I'm in the seat, my lats are snug; there's no room for me to move left or right. For those considering these seats, please try to find a dealership that has a car equipped them. Seeing them and sitting in them solidified my decision and I'm glad I ordered them. With that said, the ///M will not be my daily driver (...the same applies to my current F82) and daily driving with them would prove a tad cumbersome......if you want to preserve the bolsters. The seats are beautiful.

I'm quite pleased that BMW UK decided to make the carbon interior trim standard i.e. dash, centre console etc (like it was on the F8x generation), obviously with the new carbon faced paddles. We can't choose the carbon bucket seats as an individual option though, so they only come with the circa £7K carbon exterior pack, which in all honesty I'm not particularly fussed about.

Add to that I find my F82 non-Comp seats both comfortable and plenty supportive for "spirited driving" (albeit I don't track my car), it sounds like I'll be just fine with the standard M seat.

As others have said the OP is entitled to his opinion, but it does seem a bit over the top to be claiming the comfort seats "shouldn't even be an option"!

BTW It seems to me its actually only the front face of the paddles that are carbon, the red 'insert' looks like its attached to a plastic 'core' that the carbon attaches to the front of (then the red insert pokes though the 'plus'/'minus' cutouts). Any of you lucky owners care to confirm?

You can add them via the configurator separately in the UK... it's a £3.4k option

I agree that the standard M seats are very nice too, personally I prefer them so have spec'd those instead.

Ah ok, I thought when they first put it on it wasn't available seperately (although it does say only available with other optional equipment?).

What colour combo did you go with?

Ah could be. I know it says that but it does not add anything else, I just tried it and definitely lets you add just the seats, without the carbon exterior.

Oxide Gray exterior / Black extended interior

My F83 had Silverstone interior which was lovely but wanted something different this time and not a big fan of the Yas Marina blue interior or the Kyalami orange

Oxide Gray is one of my favourites in the current colour range, nice choice. My F82 is YMB with Silverstone.

I'm a big fan of tan/brown/biscuit colour leather (with the right exterior combo of course), but they don't offer that in the standard range.

I'd probably end up with Silverstone again as I'm not too keen on black, having said that I'm almost definitely going to pick one up nearly new rather than custom order so beggars can't be choosers

ProdigyM2, hi. First time on this forum, but would like to ask you a Q based on your review of the seats. I just took delivery of a new M4 with the regular seats. And I can't stand them. I am picky, but I feel like I sit on them, not in them, and there is way too much lumbar support, even deflated all the way. Feels like a balloon at the back of my waist. My dealer is seeing if they can get and install the carbon fiber seats. In your opinion is the amount of lumbar support in the carbons less? Not too protruding? Many thanks. E.
