My G82 came with P-zero’s. A G82 in the dealer’s show room where I got my car is equipped with the Michelin’s.

The latest P Zero (PZ4) are an improvement over the previous version P Zero, the gap between these and PS4S is now not that much and how many owners track these cars and those that do are not professional drivers anyhow and won't push the car to its limit to appreciate a better tire so no need to worry they will perform just fine for every day driving.

If you were given a choice of tires with no cost to you, I don't think anyone would pick the P-Zeros over the PS4S.

I'd be happy if the my car turns up with PS4S but I certainly won't be unhappy with the P-Zeros.

Yes I would pick the PS4S over the P Zero PZ4 if I had a choice and will order then when these need replacement, but for now I'm fine with then. Not sure why so many negative comments in this forum about the P Zero PZ4's making then sound so inferior to the PS4S, many 911's come with them.

I think this is an issue with Michelin. As even the Mustang GT with the Performance Package came with Michelin PS4S and now its a mix as well as Michelin couldn't provide Ford with enough PS4S tires.

Can confirm I got Continentals on my X3M. They aren't bad but wear out a lot quicker than the Michelins which may not be a bad thing as I will be able to change them out sooner. I did get PSS on my M2 so I'm batting .500 with my last two BMW's. My Golf R was the same with owners getting any of three different tires (I believe I got Continentals). It's typically a German thing as all my Mustangs and Japanese cars like EVO, STI, etc came with with the specified tire but as said above shortages can always come into play.

Seen a few videos and noticed the brand of tires has varied quite a bit. Noticed Michelin and Pirelli so far. Wonder if it's state, country, or region specific?

Thanks in advance for your input!
I read that Michelin is having supply issues - it's an issue across a number of their tire platforms, related to the pandemic and production forecasts.

That's probably why BMW had to source another supplier, in Pirelli, for the G80/82.

Are PS4S definitively better than the Pirelli rubber?

The dealerships I've been to seem to be 50/50 between the two manufacturers.

It's just a coincidence that all M3/M4 press review cars had PS4S tires. All of them.

While the Pirelli tires are very good, most tests show that the PS4S tires are the best out there in their category.

Also the PS4S and P-Zero tires that come with the G8x are BMW spec, which is designed for the car. That means there is a very good chance that these P-Zero tires are better than the regular PS4S spec tire of the same sizes. I haven't compared the tread between the BMW spec tires and their regular spec and I don't think there is any analysis on the tire compounds either, so this statement could be BS.

The P-Zero feels great on my G80 M3, but in the back of my mind, "even BMW thinks the PS4S is better, that tire should have been on the car instead."

in automotive world you always need 2 suppliers in most cases and in tire business imagine that bmw would rely only on 1 business especialy in the start of manufacturing when demand is the highest? they can not afford the production to stall if there is shortage of components or if will supplier closeses the business he needs a plan. they make arround 100 cars per day- 400 tires minumum needed per day and where are spare parts. i believe both are great and wont disappoint.

You make a good point about them being BMW spec tires.
