While I am leasing my 2nd G82 and have my 2020 until 6/22, I am contemplating buying it. With the restrictions imposed by our governor, I haven't been driving very much at all. I only have 9900 miles on this car that I've had for 18 months. I've been reading that the last year in the model usually holds value a bit better. As of right now, I think I'll buy it. Another thread discusses the lack of data on the new F80/2. My opinion may change if the car is well liked by fellow enthusiasts on this forum. I also may decide to buy the F82 out at lease end and convert to a dedicated track car.
I don't think I'd consider an M5. I don't have any need for the rear seats. I'm reluctant to get a Porsche for my own reasons. I may consider the new Corvette Z06. I was impressed with the F82 I saw at the Monticello track day, but obviously did not drive or sit in it. Guess we'll see...I have a little while. |

I'm wondering how many of those 154 lbs did BMW save simply by using lighter seats, wheels, carbon ceramic brakes (& maybe exhaust)?

I really hope a lot of it is unsprung weight as wheels and brakes, huge benefits there. 154 lbs is a lot though so maybe CF hood and trunk lid as well, helping lowering COG some? |

I wonder how the M5 CS will be positioned vs. the M8 GC and how they'll perform head to head.

The M5CS is leaked and it looks amazing. I’m sure it will drive great as well. If it was inside my budget I would go for it but it won’t be, likely in the $150k range...

Had an F90 and it was an amazing car. After owning an F10 and an F90, the TT V8 is one of the best motors ever created. There isn't a single weak spot in the powerband.
Main problem is the size. It is a big car and although it drives smaller than it is, there are very few places where you can open it up safely. The limits are so high that it feels somewhat pedestrian most of the time. |

The thing is, even if they end being close in weight they will probably feel significantly different. The M3 will have less sound insulation, stiffer suspension, tighter steering etc.
I would the first to strongly hesitate between both but unfortunately with my usage (10+ track days) I'm eyeing the basic RWD M3. No doubt this car will appeal to straight line crowd a lot !

Which is very disappointing if true. From what I have seen the G80 is just under 4K lbs while the F90 is close to 4400 lbs. Tough to compare based on spec sheets, need two cars on the same scale to really understand the differences.
Even at 3950 lbs, the G80 is a pig. They should have been reducing the weight to get closer to 3600 instead of going up. |

I was very much on the fence between the F80 and F90 back in 2018. I ended up choosing the F80 due to availability of a manual transmission and weight; 3575 vs 4400.
Now that the G80 is likely to closely approach or exceed 4000 pounds with AWD, I decided to order a F90 LCI. 400 pounds is definitely worth having the V8 and increased level of comfort for the 99% of the time that I'm not flogging the car. |

Had an F80 manual transmission. Went into dealer to talk numbers on the new M3, but saw an M5 on the showroom floor which was always in the back of my head. After talking numbers and getting a deal I couldn't refuse I pulled the trigger. I've had it for a couple days now, and I can confidently say that I haven't once doubted the decision. The feeling of a big body sedan is next to none. Joe Achilles in one of his reviews described it as Jekyl and Hyde and I couldn't agree more. Love every bit of the car!

I'd be surprised if the g8x awd 0-60 isn't listed at 3.6 and more around 3.4 or 3.5. If that's not enough for you def go m5

I briefly hesitated to be honest. One of my best friends has a current gen M5 that I absolutely love putting miles on when we used to go for road trips. Heck, he bought it on my advice instead of another Range Rover Sport V8.
But as polarizing as the design is, I went with a G80 based on the manual transmission, slightly lower curb weight and overall novelty of the overall chassis. While I can always pick up another M5 at some point I figured getting a new M3 stick my odds would slim out over time. You can't go wrong either way.

After seeing the M3 in person and sitting in it, I really like the G80. S new M5 is out of my budget and the CPO M5 is still at 70 to 80k with low mileage. Never owned a M car and it's on the top of my bucket list. I am still a few months out so time will tell.
