Good luck buying a brand new GT3 for $140k. That's about what you'd pay for a GT3 that's about 2-3 years old. When I was looking at them earlier this year, the 2014-2015 GT3's were selling for around $130-140k.

But holy cow does it look amazing. Those fender flares, incredible muscular stance and the air scoop. This is how you do aggressive without grafting on an oversized grille. Also that engine, it's so full of drama. It's alive, and it makes you feel alive every time you turn it on (I've driven the current scatpack)

Also, one my favorite car journalists - Jason cammisa seems to like it. I know he's polarizing but he doesn't BS and just tells you how it is.

I just wanted to join the conversation of what I'll get if the G82 doesn't pan out. What would I get in that case? No idea, don't really want to think about it since the only other car I like the combination of ergonomics, handling, quality and overall ownership experience of is Porsche, but the Panny is overpriced and the 911's rear seats aren't useful. So likely it will be an F90 M5 in that case. Hah, I might have an idea after all but then she said coupe, and no way I'm going M8.

I'm honestly starting to worry for this gen of M3/4 for a couple of reasons.

1) Styling (aka the beaver grills)
2) S58 Turbo Lag/Mediocre Exhaust Note
3) Heavier weight of AWD system on an already larger wheelbase and heavier overall vehicle
4) No DCT, just slushbox (if you need an auto or AWD)
5) Too much power/pushing the limits for the RWD + Manual to put down power properly (similar to F10)
6) The usual numb steering

Hopefully BMW will prove me wrong, but right now, I don't have too much faith, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Sorry, for typo. $160k is what I meant to type.

My contingency plan if some reason I don't like it is to hopefully find a gently used M3 CS coming off lease in 2021.

991 GT3 or GTS for me.

I have not pulled the trigger as I was really hoping this would be my first euro delivery car, so I can't justify making the switch until I know for sure its a dud.

Agreed, it looks special on the showroom floor. Ergonomics and driving dynamics likely still falls short of even the outgoing M3 though. But hey if a controversial grille design trumps that aspect of car ownership, the RS5 looks like a solid choice...

I've jumped from a C6 to an M4 to a C7Z to an M2C.
struggles with traction in all 4 cars.
so the 4WD is a plus.
I'm cross shopping between the G82 and the C8.
I love this phase

I hope it's nice and expensive, then with some luck we can get rid of all the 'for XXX I'd buy a Porsche' comments from the forum

That would be pretty awesome!!!

arbitrary line in the sand separating cars that look and sound good but are comfortable and softer with worse lap times and canyon carving capabilities and cares less about saving weight than having all the features and creature comforts (GT)versus something that makes sacrifices in comfort for outright performance and driving "feel" (sports car).

The 911 seems to have been toeing the line most of its existence... which is why people love it so much. it blurs the line.

C8 Z06 for me, anticipating ~$100k with options and taxes. That is, unless I find a used, low mileage, 4.0L (2018+) GT3 for $140k. Even so, I might keep the M4 as a daily driver and the GT3 on the weekends.

None, I will get the next gen m3/4 regardless of how much I don't like the grill design.
Only choice for me is if I want the m3 or m4. Of course with a stick and 100% those CF seats.

This is because I can't comfortably afford a Porsche that I want.

Me and the wife originally were wanting to upgrade our m2 to the upcoming m3, but based on the renders and if final product looks like the renders then 🤢🤮🤮🤮. We will most likely just skip this generation. If i made more money then i would definitely have bought a Porsche instead

A GT car is fast, but more insulated from road noise, engine noise, road feedback, tends to be heavier, etc.

The Cayman/Boxster have taken up the sports car end of the spectrum (except for the GT cars) compared to the 911 for Porsche. Lighter weight, more focused, more feedback are just a few of things you notice driving the cars back to back. Porsche also artificially limits the performance of the 718 platform by not putting their top motors in them to ensure the new 911 remains the tip of the performance pyramid for them.

All of this is subjective obviously and performance is becoming less important since almost every cars has super car numbers now relative to 30 years ago. In 1989 a 911 Turbo did 0-60 in 5.5 seconds now a Toyota Camry does it in 5.3 seconds. Does a 4.0 vs a 3.5 0-60 really make a difference other than bragging rights? Personally I still want a 911 over a Cayman just because that was my dream growing up although I would probably enjoy the driving dynamics of the Cayman more. Again just personal bias and opinion.
