I was very surprised by the time, just 0,4 sec. slower than the Carrera S, and from what they had to say, they were surprised as well!

The most important thing is the fact that the girl liked the M4 more (for her the more room at the back was the deciding factor )
Carrera S also had the optional rear axle steering that help a bit for better track time according to the presenter, and I think that the M4 was on PS4S tires?

From what I gather, the M4 had the “track pack”, which implies PSC2 tires.

Yes, he did say that, but I didn't heard him saying anything about PSC2.
If I'm not mistaking he was talking about wheels, implying that they are lighter, and about ceramic brakes?
I didn't catch that part very well, but the tires look like a normal PS4S to me.

Here are the PSC2, and they look totally different!

What tires were on the Carrera S?

On German market, Track pack do not include cup tires, it's a free cost option though. Both car shown in the video had street tires anyway.

Is the sacrifice in terms of daily use and price worth 0.43s?

PSC2 is clearly stated on the photo and I assume that the photo was taken from the video.

Aside for the hardcores, the point is that this is a "lowly" Carrera S

Guys are you serious?
The car with PSC2 is an M3 Tanzanite blue from a random youtube video, the car driven by Autobild is an M4 Portimao blue with PS4S. They are 2 different cars with different tires.

The tires on the M4 in the video have 4 longitudinal grooves, which tells me these are indeed PS4S tires and not PSC2 that have 3 longitudinal groove.

I find it impressive that the M4C was able to match the 992 CS time on street tires.

Yes but someone above posted some pictures of an M3 with cup tires, but it's another car. The M4 of Autobild has clearly the PS4S.

No one accept VIERsr bother to read what I have posted till the end
In comparison test with Carrera S you have a blue M4C, and I have presented the blue M3C with PSC2 tires for comparison because it was speculated that the M4C was on PSC2

Exactly, that was the point of the photos I have posted, and beside that, the side wall marking is entirely different!

I am really impressed that the M4 Competition is so close to the 911 Carrera S.
Realisticly the price difference between the two is about 50% (in Europe at least, when you also consider the typical discounts both brands give you). The M3 and M4 are really turning out to be absolutely amazing cars.....

And one can't buy a 3-yr old CS for under $100k.

IMO that has always been the appeal of the M3/4, close or better performance than the 911 with more practicality for less money

True, but when you sell it that 'less money' becomes less value

I ordered my M3 with Cup 2s. I think you cannot in the USA but in Canada it's a no cost option !

It's a fantastic deal for me since they are worth more than PS4S or crappy Pirelli and I DO track my cars, win win !

yea now with 2nd thoughts perhaps I should've done that as well to avoid the lottery ... i assume PSC2 is the only option for "track tires"

would work out the same for me either way, run through this set, but hold onto them for lease turn-in at the end. Then get a set of PS4S next!

I think the 4 cars my dealer got were on Pirelli so I am not taking any chances, I can't see what other tire they would put as track tire anyways, Trofeo R would be very surprising, only seen them on McLaren's.

My plan is to buy square 18 or 19 inch wheels to run winter tires then when Cup2 are done on OEM wheels Install PS4S and switch between track tires and winter tires on the track wheels.

This way I don't have 3 sets of wheels. And I get to experiment the M3 like it was intended on OEM wheels with PS4S and/or Cup2.

There is a huge difference in comfort between PS4S and other tires, even with star spec PSS. My M2 is a lot smoother with PS4S.
