M4 manual, iPhone charger heats phone

Curious if others have issues with this...I have a G82 with manual transmission so the phone charger is under the center arm rest. My normal size iPhone X heats up in this charger (I’m always using CarPlay, if relevant) to the point where after maybe an hour, it gets hot enough that the wireless CarPlay begins disconnecting often. Trips less than an hour usually don’t have obvious issues, though the phone is noticeably warmed. I wirelessly charge my phone elsewhere and don’t have this issue. Anyone else?
Taking it for a 1200mi service this weekend so will see what they say about it....

It does seem like a pretty crappy charger. I haven't had it in there long enough to get crazy hot, but definitely gets pretty warm, and also noticed it barely charges the phone. Not sure what the rating is on it, but it is a very slow charge (sort of maintain battery level but not really add much to it type charge)

IMO seems to be standard fair for the wireless chargers in a BMW. The wireless charging has the same effect in my X3. The phone gets hot and the charging speed is also rather slow.

Wireless charging is disaster in the making. It takes 50% more power to achieve the same results as a wired connection. Multiply this inefficiency over millions of devices and we’re talking about some serious waste. Logic would also suggest its harder on the battery reducing life expectancy.
I’m far from a tree huger- I drive cars that get 7 mpg, buts it’s E85 - but waste for less performance is counter to my ideals.
Yes mine got too hot so I’m using a cable. I’m also concerned that repeated use is going to scratch or dent the screen.

yea noticing the same thing with my S20 Ultra. Phone would heat up then android auto would start to stutter and cut out.

I've since picked up a 12V car charger that supports 45w fast charging (USB-PD PPS standard that Samsung uses), much better experience!
