As I'm getting closer to delivery I'm starting to think of the delivery process.

Is it safe to have the dealer remove the stickers on the car and wash it before I receive it? Or will I get the swirl special on the paint?

I've seen some folks let them detail the car prior to pick up and some others don't. What's the general consensus? I plan on getting the car ppf'd but if the dealer ruins the paint it may not be a good idea.

well every dealer I know will go with the car into the automatic car wash.

If you don't want that, tell it. So you can wash by yourself...
otherwise swirls will bearly be inevitable, altough I think on the IOMG it won't be that visible, other than Black or Tanzanite.

Yeah, different dealers do different things. Some even contract with an outside detailer to prep their new cars. You might ask them what their prep process is. For me, with this car, it's coming into an out of state dealer and then being trucked to me. I'm having the dealer only do the mechanical prep, and only a close visual for anything irregular with the exterior. They will be leaving all the protective film in place...no external prep. When it gets to me, I'll bring it to my detailer and they will do their "new car prep" and do the tint as well. No auto car wash and I know it's a true "detailing".

I always tell them not to wash. For me I will have a 9hr drive back home, so it will be dirty by the time I get home.

Making sure everything is running, check all fluids, no oil or other leaks, check for any mechanical issues, error codes, etc. We've already seen a few new owners have issues... an oil leak, a damaged rim, etc.

I didn't let them do a thing other than take the shipping blocks off and get the car drivable but I have a car detailer and some one to do ppf so its up to you, the only things I had some trouble with was the window sticker and the sipping block removal sticker the other stuff comes off easily

If you haven't yet "unwrapped" a brand new car is a pretty great experience. I'd tell the dealer to leave all the shipping film on and just do the minimal prep.

No wash, leave all the plastics on, don't drill for front license plate, etc. My last car (M2) went immediately to my detailer and they still had about 4hrs of paint correction to do...
