"Hyundai G80 M3"

I had a good laugh at this: the Hyundai G80 M3

Hats off to Biermann

And it’s not only theft from BMW, the headlight design is a modern Lampoon mobile.

I don't think the chrome does it any favours. If you changed all the chrome trim to black and went with darker wheels it would kind of look menacing.

The car’s cosmetic is definitely not my cup of tea, however the feedback on the driving dynamics is a testament to Biermann’s contribution. Hint: weight went down significantly.

He knew how to spec. a car I’ll give him that, his personal M4 was an MT on passive suspension just like my F80

His creations at Kia though

The engineering or the styling?

I haven’t driven one, the styling doesn’t have anything going for it. Poor packaging, uninspiring, soft, weird you name it. If the engineering is top notch it’s a shame that it’s wasted.

I am not sure Biermann has much influence on the styling... But it still amazing the influence only one man can have on engineering and driving dynamics. I would not consider a Hyundai or Kia regardless at this stage, but if they are becoming better driver's cars, kudos to them .

It’s likewise amazing how little impact they can have, one person in charge has come and gone at BMW and Porsche and they remain benchmarks in their segment. Company know-how, processes and culture is powerful and unless you are Steve Jobs or Elon Musk they tend to survive and thrive when even the best people exit. Will Kia ever overtake M in well engineered performance cars? Color me doubtful.

And engineering super stars often fail to turn around a company that doesn’t have the infrastructure and culture to support them.

Apple will never be an industry game changer as it was when Jobs was at the helm.

I don't believe ///M was a one man show, but I am watching ///M...

Agreed, that torch was picked up by Musk not Cook.

While I won't buy a Genesis G80 myself even if I'm in the market for a midsize luxury sedan, I appreciate what KIA & Hyundai are doing and where they're going.

With an x-Audi designer (Schreyer) and x-BMW performance lead (Biermann) they've been transforming their brand. The Stinger, i30N, Veloster N, Telluride, Palisade, G70/80, GV70/80, etc. are all great cars for what they are.

They're also on the right track with electrification so their future is bright.

The I30N is indeed a pretty cool car and the first step in this segment from them and this all to a really fair price.

More Players and the better the products get. I hope Hyundai keeps it up and continues with that, it's nice to see them coming up.
And I do like the I30N, it looks good and gives a lot for it's price.

Wondering how the first BMWs will look with their split headlight design...somehow can't imagine this yet...but we will probably see soon...
