Wanted to do a Trunk Install the SST but not much resources out there reg the same. Most of the issues come with trying to pop the rubber grommet and different techniques. I saw a lot of people doing so many variants of it that thought I could do a simpler one. If you use a flat head screw driver and a needle nose pliers to grab it, you can easily pull it out from the trunk side and took me like 30 secs. I tried to get a video but my kid didn’t get the angle correct lol. I did attach the video here.
I fed the wires through each side and was able to get it done. The wires on the SST controller connector plugs r pretty flimsy. I used electrical tape and secured them and then did use zip ties to secure them in place. I cut a slit into the grommet and a small hole using a utility knife and tried to put them back the way it came from the factory and it was near to impossible. I tried going from underneath but alas I dropped the grommet into the plastic water guards and game over. After trying to unscrew the water guards I gave up. I used some duct tape around the opening to cover up the side. For the other side I flipped the grommet with the outside part facing in and it was so much easy to slide it back in. I used some electrical tape to cover the slit and it’s set in pretty good. So for anyone out there looking to do trunk install instead of passing it through the heat shield this is much easier and cleaner once u figure out the grommets. Good luck https://youtube.com/shorts/8Ui7zUPRb...GiRqb1dx02XVEg |

Most of our issues aren't how to get the grommet out, it's that our grommets are either missing (it's completely sealed with no cutouts), or they're these non-removable plastic ones that are sprayfoam sealed from the other side.
That's where you'd need the drill or any more forceful techniques. It would be dead simple if we all had your grommet setup. |

I installed it the same way. I have my driver grommet… the passenger grommet got pushed through and I couldn’t get it back. I currently just left it unsealed. Should I put some tape to cover the hole back? If so, should I use electrical tape or would any tape do? If I don’t, will water get through or something? Thank you!

No. If you pull the grommet from the trunk side using the needle nose pliers, you dont have to remove any panels from underneath. U just push the wires through and pull them from the underneath. When u reinstall the grommet, make sure u flip it with the wider side facing the trunk. Otherwise its really hard to reinstall it and might drop into the stupid water reservoir like mine
