Jb4 tune for G82

I got a good deal on a Jb4 tune for s58 engine but it is for x3m/x4m. Can i use it on my G82 M4 since it is the same engine? Or did I waste $600

Could have swore someone asked that before and the response was that the jb4 for x3m simply had longer cables and will work on the m3. You could email burger to confirm.

You can use it; only the G87 M2 jb4 is different.

Note, if you are getting a used JB4, you void your BMS warranty and you risk connecting a water-damaged unit to your car.

If the deal is too good to turn down and you trust the seller, get it. But if you are only saving a couple hundred dollars, you are better off getting from an authorized dealer instead.

I wouldn't get jb4 on any car ... a lot of trusted performance shop won't tune your car if it had a jb4 on it before. my friend had a ignition issue right after installing his jb4 and dealer flaggued the car immediatly.

why would you go to a shop and ask them to tune your car if it already has a tune?

they will not touch the car that has a JB4 or any other piggyback

Jb4 isn't a tune ^^ it is just a external that falses the data so the car injects more fuel, o2, etc

JB4 is a tune. It changes the stock parameters externally. It's just not an ECU flash.

I guess priorities, but as long as there’s no major software bugs in the MMI system, who needs any other update if you’re able to flash the ECU. Any new base tune revisions can easily be dumped (if it’s even some kind of key needed update) and re-modified for your specific stage and flashed on the ECU, so you incorporate whatever BMW addressed in the factory file.

That said (and this depends on how BMW handles the updates and if it messed with the DME enough to break things due to calibration versions changing which may or may not matter if they match up with other modules in the car, if checked for security reasons before starting), but if someone’s REALLY that hung up on having the latest updates, buy another DME (these are cheap since they’re factory locked), clone it and swap DMEs when you want to update, then swap back. Again, not 100% certain on this on this platform, but this definitely works on others and a ton of people that want to keep bringing a car into the dealership for full service and updates will do this. You have one tuned ECU and one factory ECU and swap as needed.

Anyway, people can do whatever, but I’ve always thought piggybacks were a shit way to try and tune a car. It’s bullshit… this isn’t 1995… even 1995 wasn’t 1995 since you could pull EPROMs and flash them on the bench and put them back in.

JB4 you can add custom tuning. You can also run PI with JB4.

My buddy who has been doing a ton of R&D and is on this forum currently has a mid 9 second M3 on a JB4 with port injection. So if you don't want to unlock the DME you can still put down a lot of power with a JB4 if you have it configured right.

I traded my RWD for an X-drive because the power was too much for rear rear-wheel drive car.
