I think you do. I had a valve controller stock and it just make it only slightly louder. It was noticeable but really not all that much. With a midpipe it's a whole different story.

Love my AA single midpipe. That or MAD single would be my vote.

The SST plus the midpipe in an excellent combo. I always recommend starting from there and if the customer wants more, they can upgrade the axle back.

+1 for the single midpipe, that's the best-sounding in my opinion

I have the Dahler controller and Dinan midpipe. It’s a fantastic combo IMO. I’m sure the sound with be the same with the SST, etc. but I really like the midpipe and valve controller combo. Simple install for both as well.

This combo is an excellent starting sound modification. once complete, if you are satisfied with the sound, then you are all done. if not, you can upgrade the axle back and/or downpipes.

The brand of the controller does not change the sound of course, they all get the job done and open the valves all the way if needed.

I have same midpipe in my garage haha waiting for me to get my controller. I wanted to install both at the same time. Still can't decide on what controller to get dahler seems expensive for the same thing the valvetronic or Irl does. 🤔

Might be - I didn’t research them super deep but the Dahler did everything I wanted as far as not requiring external power and being controllable by the homelink buttons. Those others might have the same features - if so it probably doesn’t matter which you go with. The tech and what it’s doing is pretty simple. I will say the Dahler felt very well built and weather sealed, and the connectors felt OEM / OEM+.

I love my stt controller. The best feature is that it has an oem setting if you want it to work like stock. Plus the price is hard to beat.

Dahler and SST are the most popular options. They pretty much work the same way. It's a matter of brand preference.

SST is the best value controller

Easy to install (watch those grommets) and 100% open valves sound is great.

That and it's also nice to have the option to have it quiet so as to not wake up neighbors or if you're just cruising (there's a bit of drone at 1.7-2k RPM with the valves fully open).
I noticed this too. At a full stop in gear it goes quiet but as soon as I release the brake, it comes back again. I just installed the SST valve controller a couple days ago. Kinda hate it but what can we do…

I’ve noticed this too awhile back even with flaps fully opened. Would this quietness still occur (when brake is fully applied) with an after market midpipe?
