Talking SST VALVE CONTROLLER INSTALL ON THE G8X’s

One of my customers did a review and installed it on their cars. Hopefully, this helps answer your install questions.

Only problem with this method is I've found my signal reach is a bit inconsistent with the homelink that it doesn't always work. I had to move mine closer (behind the trunk liner).

Would be good if someone did an install video having it go through their battery compartment.

I have a question. On my remote, I have A and C programmed in my homelink. When Im in option C, the valves appeared to be closed when I hit M1 or M2 as well.

*update- So i played around some more with it. So when I put it on with the valves wide open, then hit C (stock) the valves close completely, when I hit M1 or M2 the valves are still staying closed in C. It did work one time when I could see the valves were open at 70% in option C but I started the car back up again and they were closed as if it were in B or C.

The vales don't actually open that much when you're in Sport+ and even less in Sport. They're programmed, OEM, to open the more you give throttle and the faster you go, so it's tough to actually notice them open a lot just by looking at them.

+1 OEM range goes from 0% to 70% based on throttle. Thats why it makes a big difference when you force the valves open with the valve controller.

Had my SST installed this week. Mounted the controller in the trunk. I have a clip below. I start with factory valves in Comfort mode. Rev then factory in Sport+. The next set are valves open in Comport then in Sport +.

https://youtu.be/MNHdggXf-JI?si=Ot7BrOkTPGbtyQlx

The only odd thing I noticed is the car gets super quiet even with the valves open when you come to a complete stop when in gear. Otherwise it works as expected.

I cant explain why the car would be quieter with the valves open at a full stop. the controller does not change any software settings.

wether the valves are open stock, with an aftermarket component, or manually, they should sound the same.

Maybe a dumb question, but why not just disconnect the stock plug on the exhaust? On my F80 I started the car, put it in sport plus, turned off the car, unplugged the valves and tucked them away. That left the valves always open, which is what I would want. That was the trick many would do. Is that not doable with the G8X platform?

I've noticed this as well. I believe it's just the car messing with the engine maps at a stop vs a roll. I notice that the noise starts back up again the moment the brake pedal is fully released, so it's definitely something electronic/part of the car's un-disableable ASD that we can't quite get rid of with coding.

Problem is the valves don't open all the way OEM until you're WOT or close to redline. So theoretically if you went into S+ then disconnected, the valve would only be open 20-25% or so. I also believe the controller itself fails closed, so if it loses power, it closes the valve before it dies. There is a way to add a physical stopper that physically prevents the valve from closing.

That and it's also nice to have the option to have it quiet so as to not wake up neighbors or if you're just cruising (there's a bit of drone at 1.7-2k RPM with the valves fully open).

Most people don't always want valves open, especially on a cold start.

That’s a bummer. It was so easy on the F8X platform.

I can see that. I never go anywhere early in the morning so my neighbors are spared. I miss my m performance exhaust with no valves and no fuss. I wish the CSL had a similar setup.

I just ordered some goodies from your shop, including a valve controller. I told myself I wouldn’t mod this car. I made it almost 2,000 miles before I caved.

You can remove the valve servo and worm clamp the butterfly valve open 100%. There is a thread on here on how to do it. Only problem with it is that you lose ability to be quiet if you wanted too.

I cant blast my neighbors every day at 6am so I went with the valve controller. Open 99.9% of the time and OEM mode when I cold start early mornings.

Two thousand miles is a long way; most cave at the 1200 mile after break-in. You held out longer than most, Great job!

I can’t decide on a mid pipe. But I may not need one with this.
Order placed with some BMS Filters.
