I was on the Bus for six years and miss it every day.

Short stint in the military and now a federal employee. Highly considering an exit to the private sector though in the coming years so any advice/input from those in the tech, banking or finance industries would be appreciated.

Stay. Take advantage of the fact that you have lifetime employment, 'retire' early for your next career and invest every penny possible until you exit the gov't.

Yeah, I feel like a lazy government worker saying that but those reasons are why I haven’t made any big effort to switch over yet.

I'm a university professor in computer science. Maybe I'm adding a new category of teacher in the list. I don't see any performance car in our university's parking lot and I don't want to attract too much attention, which would be impossible because of the new M3's grille.
My commute is like 70 minutes one way and I wanted to buy a car that can transform my boring commute to near-death experiences at times. I'm kidding. |

You don't get the same number of days off either. If you are a long tenured govie, you are getting like 30 days of PTO a year, plus sick leave and comp time for random shit. Not so much on this side. I'm sure you know most of this already.... I guess it's whatever you value more. I'm still a workaholic so contractor life is great... but when I start to slow down, that government time off is going to look really good. |

I own a small startup IT Consulting and Recruitment firm, with some real estate investments on the side.
