I would not wait for the LCI hoping for a massive front end change. Look at the iX, i4 and 4-series. For better or worse, BMW is doubling down on this new grill look. They are not going to change only the M3/M4 because people here complain.

The grille of the new G8x is different from a standard 3 serie model and that makes it special. I saw it in person and I like it. I can however understand that people will have to get used to it.

That's funny if you actually think that's true. Perhaps you're being playfully jocular. According to BMW they are only aiming for a 20% acceptance rate. No need to change as long as they can get 20% of us to like it. That's why I like BMW - They aim high with their expectations.

And about these 20%. What he means, is 20% like it from the beginning on, and others start to like it after they get used to the new look, so they see these 20% as positive sign, not as a negative one. However, it is still funny that most people think, that the money comes from the very few enthusiast. In general, cars don't just get designed and developed like - Hmm...what do we want to do here? Lets try this way.... There are market researches, studies, things get showed to special groups and so on and on. There is something behind, if they decide to go this way, especially as you say, on such important cars like M3/M4 . But we will see how it turnes out in a year or so....I'm just wondering that most of the dealers have a huge list of orders already, if you follow these forums, you may think that they would even have to pay you some money to order one... |

The G80 LCI is in 2022. My bet is that they will make zero changes to the front end because they want to keep it the same as the G82, not only for visual consistency but also because they probably want to share tooling, parts, etc. for manufacturing. The tail lights will likely change to whatever they do for the G20, for the same reason. At least that is what I would do for the initial LCI.

haven't all recent LCIs been very weak sauce? Aside from the M2C that got a new engine, the changes have been pretty minimal.

The 3er/M3 LCI will have no impact on the front of the M3 (nor, obviously, the front of and any other exterior element of the 4er/M4). Quote:
Of course there are will be some revisions to the electronics and interior with this LCI as well. When applicable, those will also affect the M3, and where parts are shared across the entire G2x/G8x lineup, the M4 too. |

I would paint match the center section of the grill to the body and see if it would create the kidney grill shape of the past. I wonder if anyone has rendered that image. I'd be curious to see what it would look like and if a company like IND would offer those in the future. Could be a cheap bandage to the 🐽 imo

So, if you don't like the G80's looks but love the way it drives and handles compared to the competition then maybe you do get it in black and hope you get used to it because the other factors outweigh the looks. The competition like the W206 C63 is rumored to be a V4 hybrid which is a big negative to some. So then it's the "need to get used to it" looks vs. a tiny (but just as fast) V4 hybrid, which is more important to you? If the V4 is a deal breaker, then it's back to I hope I get used to the looks. |

I'm thinking that I will wait for the LCI regardless. Once that is available, I will probably get the G80 or G20, depending on how I feel about the grill situation. I hope the wait is worth it.

I can get behind the tech, new side profile and rear, but the front is just visually unappealing, garish and too harsh. Hoping an LCI update tames it.

I'm not sure why this is, but I think the grills look really ugly/out of place on the 4 series (and I've seen the car up close in person too) and I don't think they will EVER grow on me, but they actually look pretty good on the M3/M4 (which I haven't seen in person yet). I will reserve my final judgement until I see one in person but I think the grills definitely look much better on them, especially on the M3.

That's a sedan, but now if they ever release the GTV that might be a great viable alternative.

The base 430 and the M4 are the best of the bunch. That little smiley face mouth on the M Sport not so much.
