That was the most mature response to criticism in the history of the internet. Thanks for restoring my faith in these forums lol.

How can you compare a design direction you don't particularly like with the largest fraud ever committed by the automotive industry that was perpetuated on millions of consumers all over the world?
Totally fair point, I see them as both representing a problem within a management structure, but I should not compare this to illegal activity. Thanks for pointing that out.
The problem with the "bad business decision" grill argument is the bold grill designs are selling well so it's unlikely to see any course correction. What the situation really comes down to is those who do not like the grill, cannot understand why bmw would make a product they don't like, then start firing off all kinds of reasoning not supported by the facts of the market.
A couple key examples:
7 series LCI - grill haters say horrible, sales say huge increase vs pre-lci
X5/x7 - grill haters throw out tons of memes, both sales successes
8 series - grill haters reference as the standard for a good looking bmw or what the M4 should have looked like... M8 coupe and convertible canceled for 2021 in the USA due to sales failure

It is what it is, as long as the "controversial" designs drive sales growth and high overall customer satisfaction/appeal with the design bmw will keep going in that direction.
The sad truth we weren't ready to hear. To be fair the 3 series still has a decently sized grille and that's a volume seller. In my personal opinion, the 8 series doesn't have the wow factor that the last 6 series had when it came out. I wonder if other people feel the same & if that contributes to the slow sales. Also... I wonder if the grille for the 4 should've been on the bigger 8 just as we're saying vice versa

Grillegate is a symptom of this, as was Dieselgate at VAG.

BMW has a massive design department issue, and a management issue that has allowed this to happen.

As some have said it is no so much about the size of the grille, it's the execution.

Audi has been doing big grilles (15 years now) and it is working just fine, because they are getting the execution right.

If these cars sell poorly BMW will change over time.

One thing is for sure:
BMW Needs to put together a pile of cash and go recruit some designers.
WTF? Comparing design features that you personally don’t like, and fraud? Seriously?

The real problems facing the industry today is the race to alternative fuel technology while appeasing both the masses and the investors. Most EVs coming to market over the next 36 months seem to be adopting either futuristic or modernized retro styling. BMW is trying to find a niche and I think the various 4 series models are their attempt to create a style somewhere in the middle. It will take a few swings to hit the home run.

I think the new M4 looks better than the new M3. The avant garde look of the new grill is more suited towards it.

As many have said it's not the size of the grill or even the orientation of it, it's the execution. The pics floating around of the M concept from a few years ago looks amazing, they could have gone with that and had a winner but nope they had to just slap on that huge awkward one.

I bet a lot of black cars will be sold 😂
Which sucks because I like my Ms to have unique color combos. Either bold outside or bold inside. And i don't think red leather is an option this time. Or maybe I missed it.

What I see is an outdated but timeless design F80 in front and the future of BMW in the back. Great thing about life is you can do whatever you want lol. Either way people will buy it and the ones that say they're going to other brands will be back on the forums saying they bought one : think it's time to move on and accept what's coming.

I agree, you have to be on drugs to think that g82 is a better design than the f82.

At this point I'm wondering if BMW did this to test fan loyalty lol.

Horrible design, it'll look good on black and some colors but it's sad to see.

If you dont like the design, just dont like it. No need put a sticker on people who does. It is just disgraceful.

Yes, the F80 will always look amazing but it's time to move on from it. The design has been around for a while and was starting to look old compared to your new cars coming out. Especially the interior.
