Two hours out as of 7/6 12:08 AM, hopefully we don't get stuck waiting at the entrance of the canal. It's wishful thinking but I'm hoping to see us on the other side of the canal by 9 AM in the morning.

Looks like she's in the queue but in a traffic jam.

@ArnoPCB since you are a mariner I wanted to ask you. Now that we are 2 days delayed for the canal, how do you think that will be reflected on the ETA of 7/25? Do you think they can "make it up for it" on the way or you think its safe to assume the ETA is pushed to 7/27?

The schedule still shows 7/25:

My CA just e-mailed me: 7/30 ETA at port and to expect 7-8 days until my car is available for pick up.

Your answer is in the post of BugKiller. So, at the moment the Orion is at anchor waiting for a transit, whenever that is, so that is a variable as is the weather underway. The distances from Balboa (south entrance Panama Canal to Callao and Callao to Iquique are too short to make up time. It looks like the Orion has an average speed of 16 knots, although sea trial data shows 21 knots max. which they never do to conserve fuel. That means trip from Iquique to Port Hueneme (4300 nautical miles) takes roughly 11 days, 9 days with 19 knots, just a savings of 2 days. Possible but unlikely they will go 19 knots. If the eta Port Hueneme is now July 30, that means the holdup is the Panama Canal, as I suspected. As of late last night, Orion was not on the transit list for July 6. Both Callao and Port Hueneme are "unsequenced calls" which means they were not initially in the ships itinerary and causes unreliable eta's. This must be one of the longest trips from Bremerhaven to Port Hueneme, 6 weeks instead of the average of 4 weeks!

Thank you for the detailed explanation. Geeked out on break down lol. It makes sense that they won't be going full throttle just to shave off 2 days so I am not holding my breath. Also BugKiller's update from his CA is as good as it gets in regards to getting an update. I am hoping that we at least make it to the port by the updated date. I am hoping that we will have the keys to our cars by second week of August. 6 weeks might a new record for Bremerhaven to Hueneme. There are other people who have gotten on a ship last week as opposed to us and are making it around 21-22 of August lmao. Could've still been at the port so no complaints.

Thanks for all the updates, especially the picture of her going thru the Gatun Locks! Looks like she will exit the canal around 1000/1030 PDT, 1200/1230 local time. A very fast Panama Canal transit!

This is great, ArnoPCB made some calculations which put it more like 30th, which is what BugKiller's CA also told him but honestly I am okay with either/or now that its getting on our side of the canal.
