Another g80 track pad option emerges

https://www.counterspacegarage.com/p...pads#endurance

As discussed with others, new pad materials and different construction for rears vs fronts might yield better results.

Who's going to try them first?

G80 should be here end of Dec or early Jan and there's a Chin Track Day at the end of January. I'll be doing my best to rack up the 1200 miles, get the service completed, and install these pads in under a month….

Has anyone had experience with these pads in other settings? It's a new brand to me…

Rears are delayed per csg due to regional differences in pad shape. They offered to mill me a set if I needed them fast. You should be fine on stock for a mild outing if you don't do more than a few consecutive hot laps.
Im waiting for my second set of front tires and suspension work to be done before I go out again, hopefully on a warm day in December and I have a fresh set of Blue-stuff on the bench.

Fyi Csg did not recommend running these in the street as the compound is hard and will wear down the pads and rotors when cold

Is there a guide / video on how to swap pads on G8x? Fronts seem straight forward but more of a pain than F8x - I've seen posts on rears taking about disassembling parking brake and others with a 9V battery…

I've been swapping pads on F8x for almost 6 years and it seems like the 45 min pad swap on all 4 corners may be behind me…

The only video I Have seen is of a x3 rear pad swap, but I have done it several times and its not difficult, takes about an hour an axle with a jack and hand tools, no impact gun on the wheels…

Couple of tips:

1. The rear caliper slide bolts are supposed to be replaced, you may want to get a bunch of these from the dealer, but they come with the oem rear pad kit.

2. You can use a 9v batter to retract the parking brake, but polarity controls direction and if you extend it all the way the piston will come out and leak brake fluid everywhere. (Dont ask me how I know this)

Apparently bimmerlink can retract the rear piston but I haven't heard if it supports g80 yet.

3. Get a piston push back tool like this with a hanger… IRmm Car Brake Caliper Press... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B088M5GQ46...p_mob_ap_share

Whack-a-mole with the front pistons is a pita.

Thank you - super helpful. Yikes on the brake fluid…

Does the parking brake auto-set on G8x? Just wondering how this will work when coming off the track with hot brakes and making sure I don't have the parking brake become a permanent fixture of the rear rotor…

Make sure you have auto hold off and you'll be fine.

I don't know why they had to fk with the brakes. I'm going to miss quick swapping my brake pads on the F80.

Yeah its a pita. It makes track prep about 2 hours but I have to take off my wheels anyway.

I Would love to see a bbk with easily removed pads. The parking brake is not hydraulic but I think auto hold is because you don't hear the winding of the motors in traffic.

I expect replacement of the rear system will be quite the project and require some coding
