Raising a G80 M3 1-2 inches for ripping around on gravel roads?

I live on a farm and often rip around on gravel roads pretty quick.

Debating buying an M3 - but want to be able to put 18 inch wheels on it and just lift it enough to be able to fly over gravely roads (my farm has 5 entrances, 4 of which are about 1/2 a mile over gravel).

Has anyone seen any 1.5-2 inch lifts that are not absurd, but give just enough clearance to pop over some gravel road (gravel roads get dicey especially after some rain, and we don't always grade stuff perfectly, so just need a bit more clearance)?

Sounds like you need an X3M/X4M.

KW makes lift kits for Porsche GT3 and Lambo etc for clearing speed humps. You might be able to get them to make you a custom kit but they're not cheap

You can then drop it back to normal or even a properly low ride for normal roads with the press of a button

I agree an X3M, X4M, Stelvio, Macan, etc. fits your needs better. I can't imagine an M3 sitting higher than it already does. it'll look ridiculous unless it was a station wagon then it might work.

A Mitsubishi Evo or Subaru Impreza tarmac Rally spec sounds like it'd be a lot of fun on these roads and a lot less money and you wouldn't be worried about destroying a new car but I say go for it if that's what you want!! Would be a lot of fun if you don't care what the ride height looks like and the paint getting beat up from gravel

Ripping a m3 on gravel? That gives me anxiety

People here have obviously never seen the guy that posts under Lumber21 on IG

https://www.instagram.com/lumber21/?hl=en

GT2RS, GT3RS, AMG GTR, Ford GT, etc all get thrashed around his property in the woods. There is even a video from last Christmas of his GT3 with a Christmas tree tied to the rear wing while jamming around.

Personally I hope you rip it out there. If you think you really need to raise it then you will have to find an air ride kit. This will allow you to raise and lower the car on demand.

Everyone thinking aftermarket when g20 base springs would probably be okay. It will more than likely be slightly overdamped but it should give you what you are looking for. If it doesn't work you are out a few bucks and 2 hours for install.

So you think that the stock G20 3 Series Base Springs would raise the car a bit?

Beyond this - any suggestions on slightly bigger tires that can fit on 18 inch wheels (planning to get the base 18/19 wheel set, but know that even those need some more rubber near gravel etc.)?

Planning to order a G80 M3 in the next week or two if I can get a dealer allocation. Also need to figure out the roof rack / trailer hitch situation…

Trailer hitch will be very tough, as the muffler is so large there isn't any space for it. However a G20 kit will more than likely fit with some cutting of the diffuser and an aftermarket axle back.

And yes springs set the ride height and stock dampers already have plenty of downtravel. Before springs came out for m3/m4 shops were installing g20/g22 springs on em. However they will more than likely be WAY undersprung. Will not drive like it does at delivery and may have some undesirable characteristics.

[EDIT] I will also say barrel clearence on the front 18's is TIGHT. I only had mine on for 2k miles or so and I already had a good scratch in the barrel from a piece of gravel getting caught between the caliper and barrel... And I kept off the beaten path.

Im sure someone will eventually release an axle lift kit for the car. It will not be cheap though. I looked into doing the hydraulic kw kit on my F80 and it woulda been anywhere from $5-7k.

Don't really have anything to offer here but I just want to say that I think this idea is pretty badass. G80 M3 as a farm runner? I love it.

+1. Although a "rally" G80 sounds kinda badass definitely look into getting something like an STI.

I had one, changed the 19"s for 18"s and it was a badass little car and has decent ground clearance for stuff like this.

Only comes in stick (which you mentioned as a requirement) and AWD too.

Just sayin'.

No way. Working on an order (if I can get an allocation for a G80). Have zero interest in a WRX.

Sounds like best bet is G80, then get some G20 springs on it. Working on this…

Ordered one. Any good rims/tires that would fit, and which get a bit more rubber and run at like an 18 rather than 19 or 20 that can be a bit better on dicey gravel>
