lowering springs rec for xdrive g80

Anyone have a lowering springs rec for g80 xdrive. I talked to H&R today which I used on my old car and they said they don't yet make the springs for the AWD version. Rather than email every manufacturer, I was wondering if anyone had a rec? Thanks.

Honestly, no one can answer that because not even the press has access to the car. That being said, it makes no financial sense for BMW to completely change the struts, perches, and spring design. I would assume that the same springs on the RWD will work on AWD. I would suggest googling the G20 line and see if the springs are interchangeable, that would give you a clue.

100% concur here--- I agree that all the suspension geometry parts would remain intact. Hell, my arms on my G80 say M4 right in the middle

Thats good advice. Thanks. Trying to get an early jump on ordering the springs before the car gets in a month or so.

Let me know what your research turned up. I have an xDrive M3 coming in 2 months and want to order lowering springs too.

That 'early' H&R kit from another model, (G20?) that some guys were using before the official G80 kit came out, does not fit the X-Drive so that would indicate there is a difference.

Possibly due to the weight the spring rates are different or something, I'm unsure what but it looks like a slight change

Haven't found anything yet and it seems different springs will be needed for the xdrives compared to the rwd. I check weekly to see if there's any news (especially from H&R) so will let the thread know if anything comes up.

Btw congrats on the M3. Got mine last week. It's a beast and so much better compared to my old f80 M3 CS.

The front strut on the AWD G80 is physically shorter than the RWD one due to the axle location and has a different mounting style to the knuckle.

The front struts and springs have different part numbers from BMW.
The rear shocks are identical part numbers, but their springs are different most likely for the spring rates due to weight difference between the drivetrain types.

Yah, I don't think many manufacturers know about the xdrive tbh. H&R didn't know there was an AWD version when I contacted them 2 months ago about it... Also weird is the lack of youtube content on the g80/g82 xdrives from the likes of carwow, smoking tire, etc. The car has been out for a month or so now and is a significantly different car compared to the RWD versions especially from a standstill and is in need of its own separate review/testing.

I called KW headquarters here in America and they haven't even started on g80 AWD springs yet they're still working on the 21 g80/g82 stuff

Can't confirm on the MSS, as we'll likely be going the KW & AST direction once they start arriving.

Saw on IG that you guys fit the AST springs on the xdrive! When you report back on the thread, was hoping you can comment on these springs compared to H&R, which I am only really familiar with. Stiffer? Sportier? Harsher ride? etc. Thanks!

Ride on the ASTs are identical to OEM and get rid of that unsightly wheel gap. Usually we'll only use H&R springs when there's no other option available, as they tend to be the stiffest out of the bunch. Don't plan on installing any for G8x, unless someone specifically asks for it.

There are a ton of lowering options coming down the line like KW HAS, AST HAS, Coilovers from AST, Moton, M-Performance and Ohlins jsut to name a quick few - don't think anyone will suffer from lack of options.

More pics of the M3 X-Drive in the AST thread: https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...5&postcount=90

I’ve seen the box for the KW springs and there is a sticker label stating the springs are for “M3 (G80) 2WD/4WD, M4 (G82) 2WD/4WD”. I don’t doubt that there are different P/N’s on the factory springs between the RWD and X-drive versions. Maybe KW intends them to be for both models but doesn’t want to endorse them until fully tested?

There is no concrete proof, thats the problem my guy called kw bc he is a distributor and he says they won't fit. Honestly I think my guy doesn't want to damage the car if it does not fit so he does not want to install. Others here have put rwd springs on awd and say they fit, yes perhaps but at what price with respect to your shocks and struts?

I’m by no means saying go for it and throw them on your car. Just relaying what I have seen.

We gave the AST's a shot on this AWD M3C. It is one of our DME Tuning guys, so it was a good guinea pig to test and monitor the feedback as he uses it. Initial test drive around town over here had no clunking or bottoming out. We'll find out as time goes on and he hits some more serious bumps on our lovely NNJ roads. Will report back.

I know the wheel gap up front is larger than the rear (still don't understand why manufacturers do this) - does anyone make a lowering spring set for just the front if a person wanted to go that route - to closer match the rear and maybe even a tad lower?

I have a 2022 xDrive M3 coming, is there recommended wheel spacers a person can use with OEM wheels yet that we know will work with a lowering spring kit?
