MSS or AST

Hey guys, I've always heard great things about MSS, I just want to know if I should look at the AST or stick to my gut? Hoping both experiences can shed some light here . Thank you!

Adjustable or no? ASTs look fantastic, ride great, are 1/3 the cost, and no fiddling with height adjustment.

Otherwise, Id go MSS without the “mod”

I was gonna do MSS. Realized there was no need for me to adjust and incur the additional cost. After all of the positive reviews and pictures, I went AST.

Did you consider the KW HAS? They seem to have a better drop up front than MSS right out of the box.

I have the MSS and they ride great, particularly in the rear which is helped by the second spring (no crashy ride like you get on some cheap spring kits)

No idea what the AST ride like but the drop looks good!

My MSS have settled quite a bit but probably not enough for the stance boys

Rides great!

MSS is 1100 bucks and AST is definitely less. Personally I went with MSS because it was the only option in May of 2021 and I grateful it was. I like them so much that I just moved the same parts over from my RWD to X Drive. This says volumes about the part(s). I do feel the car drives better than my M8 on KW's (again says volumes).

I am not a retailer so my only bias or play is ownership and the MSS is tremendous. The spring rates that lead to the compression and rebound are incredible. I have never tried AST so I can not give an opinion.

I truly have no idea my car is lowered with MSS every single time I drive it. I personally like a slightly lower car than fixed springs offer so MSS works for me and the 600 bucks more or so that I paid. Do I readjust it often, hell no- Ill never adjust it so the HAS part is not reflective in my choices.

In reality the BMW dampers on the G8X are so much better than previous M3/4 iterations so almost any spring will be great unless the spring rates are really low and you get the bounce back!!!

Does the KW drop descent in the back? My parking is also underground so I'm kinda in a pickle..

I went with MSS, no regrets what so ever. Yes it costs more, and takes time to settle (I am at 1K miles front is settling well). For the rear mine is same as Vic's with no rub with adults and kids.

I dont rub at all- the wheels do camber in under flex. Ive tested it on weird angles where I stopped the car and reviewed where the tire sits. Remember this a HAS kit so I have tons of upward room too. Also what tires do you have??

This is not under flex but gives you good idea:

KW can go just as low as the MSS--- I personally still have about 10mm left if I wanted to go lower.

Ben can do anything you want and will even tell you that on the F90 KW is the best along with the F93 but on the G8X MSS has made an impact.

The Pirelli is a more square tire and will fill the wheel wells even better than the PS4 so you wont have to lower it as much to get the same appeareance.

I know this because we did the same MSS drop on both my G80s with one having Pzero and now I have PS4.

I did on the 2021 G80 but drove it about 250 miles first to allow all things to settle. The camber was barely off and so was the toe. The most important measurement for wear is toe as scrubbing can occur which will kill tires much faster than camber. But these cars dont have camber adjusters from the factory but we still were able to get the car within spec in all measurements.

On the 2022 my local alignment shop does not yet have the specs loaded up so Im waiting until next week when they arrive. They have a vin scanner that autopopulates the specs and its not yet uploaded.

We would recommend either the KW HAS kits if you want the option of adjustable ride height or AST springs if looking to close the gap and retail a stock ride. Both options come in at a lower cost than the MSS springs.

Many have been happy with going the AST route and pocketing the extra $$ saved for more mods. Check out the AST thread for plenty of examples and reviews.

Both are really good options, we chose the MSS for the shop's M4.

We'll be doing the install mid this month and posting a step by step video

Is H&R an option? What stance/look are you going for? I currently have AST’s loved how they feel but I went with them knowing I’ll be going full coilovers soon and they aren’t low enough. However, I am going for a more tucked look now that I have my HRE’s on.

Im going with the KW has kit. Appt later this month to have it installed. I originally ordered it way back before my car arrived but held off to see some installed first before taking the plunge. The MSS sat too high in the front for my liking. I plan to pretty much go as low as I can in the front and matching the rear gap to the front gap. Essentially about a finger gap all the way around
