I’m pretty new to this kind of stuff so sorry in advance if this is a dumb question.
Planning to do a resonator delete but am worried about warranty of the vehicle. From what I’m understanding, as long as I don’t touch the primary cats there shouldn’t be any warranty issues correct?
Also, would there be a specific department to call at my local bmw dealer or would I just ask my service advisor for warranty information like this?

Don't worry about talking to the dealer.

They'll likely never notice it in any meaningful way

Only do the resonators if you're concerned at all.

Removing the primary cats found in the downpipes allows for more power, which BMW can attribute to if something really catastrophic happens, and even then - they'd have to prove that your removal of the cats is what caused any sort of issue. For example: if there's some issues with your suspension, they can't blame the catless downpipes for that.

Removing the resonators in the midpipe may introduce some power, but it's rather insignificant, so it's safe to say there wouldn't be any repercussions for removing them from a warranty standpoint.

BMW SA will say this: leave it stock, and don't touch anything if you care about your warranty. Many SA's are chill, and many are not - but at the end, if there's some serious warranty work that needs to be done, BMW does need to approve it and they will look to stiff you and blame whatever they can on the issue that will save them money. S55 crankhub stories haunt me sometimes, so I'm genuinely not interested in heavily modifying my upcoming G80 M3. Downpipe, midpipe, wheels, dropped ride height - that's it for me. No tune, no E85, no port injection for me.

The old saying goes - you pay to play. I think it's fair to say that BMW generally are okay with exhaust mods, but when it comes to messing with the ECU/introducing a piggyback that increases boost targets - you're in murky water. But there are loads of threads about warranties, including someone that claims to be a "BMW master tech", but this is the internet, and I can claim to be Batman if I wanted to, so be diligent in your research.

Thanks for all the responses! Planning on doing either both resonator deletes or a secondary cat/ first resonator delete. Just need to find the right muffler shop to do it.

Is this XPipe going through both resonators? Or just the last one closest to the muffler? I’m trying to go with the same setup but with Project Gamma Downpipes.

Depends on your state laws. The midpipe keeps the primary cats and does not throw a check engine light

I'm in VA...just concerned about the rave affidavit, but otherwise I think it sounds great. Less rasp than the x pipe they offer, right?

Does anyone have sound clips of one resonator being deleted? I'm probably going to go with 1 resonator delete I'm just torn with resonator to go with whether it's the crossover section in the resonator or other one. Has anyone only done a secondary cat delete? Please if someone has sound clips drop below.

I personally think the 2nd cat delete with leaving both resonators in is the way to go. You'll get a horsepower bump, more volume and should have zero drone / bad frequencies.

I wouldn't remove the rear resonator (closest to the back of the car) as that's the one with the merge in it. (Unless you put in an x-pipe)

Cut the front resonator out.

After reading this thread, I went to a muffler shop and paid 200 dollars to cut the forward resonator out and welded in two straight pipes. I noticed a definite improvement in the engine sound and I don't think I want both resonators deleted. I think one resonator deletion is plenty. This work took all of 20 minutes to complete after I just walked in. Attached are some images of the front and rear resonator, resonator deleted, and then straight pipes welded in. Love it!

20 minute?

- put car on lift
- cut pipes
- remove pipes (assuming this is needed for welding access?)
- weld pipes
- install pipes
- get car off the lift

That is amazing time!

Please add sound clips I'm debating what to do and I'm planning on doing it tomorrow or day after. I have lots of questions about this setup.
