High pitched brake squeal?

I got my '22 M3 about 3 weeks ago and have noticed the brakes have an extremely high pitched squeal when stopping, almost like a semi is rolling up to stop.

I'm about 600 miles away from my break-in service, should I wait to have the brakes checked or wait till I take it in for the break-in service?

Do you have the standard steel brakes or the carbon ceramics?

I have the same problem and I'm just going to let you know right now, it probably won't go away. I have 7000 miles and it started around 1000 miles for me.

I had the same problem. Didn’t do anything to see if there’s an issue and assumed it’s part of the break in when I first got it. Now at like 2000 miles and the sound comes and goes but it’s a lot better than before

There have been a lot of posts and answers there’s a break in procedure in the car manual as well… I can make it go away by doing some sharp breaking from 90 to 50 (suggest at night on highway) for a couple days…but it always comes back.

Suggestion switch to EBC break pads…some have reported less noise.
Will need to wait a bit longer for the aftermarket to catchup.

Have you taken it in to have it checked/serviced?

Yeah, they give me the usual run around which is "couldn't verify the issue" or "it's normal"

Im surprised this thread made it this far without someone telling everyone on here, BREMBOS ARE GOING TO SQUEAK AND MAKE NOISE. Take the car to Mexico, and do some 150-0 hard braking, and it will go away. It may come back from time to time.

If youre not even to your break in period, the brakes are still brand new. BMW had a lawsuit a few years ago on carbon ceramics doing the same thing. This isnt a Toyota Pruis. If you've ever had a car with Brembos, get used to it. I for one, do plenty of good stopping, and rarely have a noise problem, and my M4 has CCBs, with 1,900 miles on them.

I've heard it once or twice, but only in the last 5-10 feet of stopping, and it was only twice, so far. The first time it was so faint, I wasnt even sure if it was my car, that was even making the noise.

My advice, which combined with a $5 bill, may get you a cup of coffee, drive the car. If you're commuting in it, and never get it over highway speeds, youre in for a long, noisy ownership. There is no servicing to be done, its a combination of fine brake dust buildup between the pads and the rotors, that makes them squeal. You need to knock the dust off of them. Drive it.

Isn't this just a BMW signature feature lol. All our steel brakes squeak from time to time. It happens on my e93. My brothers x3m and my dads f90 both squeak as well.

Thanks for the tips and glad to hear it's normal. I plan on taking her to the track after I get through the break in period, hopefully that should help.

The solution is to stop looking for one.
It's now clear that this isn't a fault, it's a performance car that is intended to be driven hard. If you just cruise about in it you'll get heavy squeals as the brake dust settles in your wheels. After I wash mine (I'm at 1600 miles) the noise is gone, but sure enough as the wheels get brake dust build up the squeaks come back. If I brake hard they go away for a while.
You need to let the brakes know who's boss by putting your foot down, literally

Until you replace the pads with aftermarket low dust pads you are going to have the squeal. I have no squeal and very low dust. Replaced my stock pads with Carbotech 1521 pads.
