Trailer Hitch

I know some will call it sacrilege, but does anyone have a recommendation for a bumper hitch for a G82?

I'm not going to be pulling a boat or anything, but my M is a daily driver and I want to add a 1-1/4" hitch to attach a bike rack

I think the exhaust setup is going to cause issues with any hitch mount

Bump.

Has anyone seen or aware of any options for tow hitches?

Understand the exhaust is going to make integration tricky.

Im sure anything is possible but with the factory exhaust setup it might be tough. I believe I saw the roof rack for the G20 fit the G8x. That might be an easier option.

It does, I have one and use it for bikes, and soon I will be using it for skis

You’re probably better off with roof rack.

Hey Guys, I am in the same boat here. Currently have an X3M and planning to move to a G80 M3 within 6 months. Bike rack on the rear is an absolute necessity for me.

While I can't see anyone has listed a tow bar yet (or tow hitch as you yanks call them) I don't think the exhaust placement is the be all and end all.

Have a look at the M340i's they run a very similar rear muffler, yet Stealth Hitch have had a product for them for some time.
https://stealthhitches.com/products/bmw-hitch-shr31003

We may find that the chassis is very similar and they just haven't had the demand yet to build one.

I'll reach out to see what they say, if I get a non committal response we may all have to email them to show demand. Worst case for me is I may try to adapt one for a M340i.

I watched a few exhaust install videos and I'm 100% sure a normal 3/4 series hitch won't work on an M3/M4. There is nothing to mount it on.
At least there is the roof rack option for cyclists. Motorcyclists ... tough luck towing a bike.

Sacrilege or not I also do not want to get a third car to tow a trailer.

Jet-ski, snowmobile need towing and I would like to do it in a car that I actually like.

At the moment I have an F32 435xd with a tow hook but I have had it for almost 8 years now and would like to move on.

I am also lookin for a 2” hidden hitch for a bike rack.

Sure a roof rack would work (looks like there are factory mount points on the G80). But if I want to go mountain biking after work I can’t get it into the parking garage.

It looks like the G80 has a spacious trunk so if I need to punt on this issue I will just fold the seats and see if I can get two bikes in there. But 5” travel 29” wheel mountain bikes take up more space than a road bike.

I was hoping for something similar to what I have on my WRX. A found a 2” hitch that is completely hidden and I remove a trim piece (held in place by a magnet) to access the hitch. But I think there is a lot more going on in the backend of an M3 and no obvious place to cut for the removable trim piece.

Found this -

Also, looking back - the M3 test car had a tow bar at some point.

If somebody is near GA stealth hitches will do the R&D on your car. Get a free hitch out of the deal too. Wish I was closer or I would go. Would make RMRW infinitely easier.

(EDIT) Had talked myself into driving down and called them to set something up. They had 0 interest unlike the correspondence I had on March 1st.

I'm debating gambling and ordering the g20 stealth hitch. I already have the add ons from another car. The mounting points look the same. The only two possible changes i'll need to make are the muffler and possibly the carbon diffuser. I'm hoping i can hammer the muffler for clearance if need be otherwise i'll chop it open and reweld it as needed(i have a tig/mig welder). The diffused on the bottom make need a little trimming. Cf is very easy to cut so thats a non issue.

Just bumping this thread again, particularly as the G81 Estate has started landing for some people.

Quick google doesn’t show tow hitch options yet, anyone found anything or had any luck modifying one from another G series?

I took the car to a couple. Fabrication shops and there’s zero room with the muffler. I contacted some aftermarket companies and their cans all sit as far back as the factory. Only option would a smaller muffler then altering it to sit forward and extending the tip connections.

I gave up and put a Thule bars and 1up bike racks
