Telly9987's G80 Build

EDITED 7/19/21 6/21/21

Hey guys.

So Im starting this thread for anyone who wants to watch and be part of the progress of my G80 build.

I have quite a bit in store for the car and am anxious to really dive into it. Quick snippet about me, I come from a race car background and grew up racing SCCA in Porsche's. About 10 years ago I migrated over to bikes and now own a race shop here in Los Angeles specializing in road racing bikes. Run a national team and travel to tracks all over the country pursuing this dream BUT I wanted a car to play with and beat out all the Los Angeles goobers in there Lambos and Ferrari's etc. (yes I know its a G80 and a F12 Superfast arent in the same category but stop light to stop light I want to make them hurt) Enough about me now, onto the car.

2021 BMW M3 6spd.
- Black Sapphire Metallic
- Fiona Red interior
- Parking Assistance Package
- Executive Package
- M-Drive Professional
- 19/20 826M Black Wheels
- M Shadowline Lights
- M Brakes in red
- Carbon Trim
- Ventilated Seats

All other factory standard options included. Above are the add ons.

I wanted the 6spd because..... 3rd pedal duh. I have other toys with paddles and thats cool but I wanted this to be a drivers car. I opted to get the G80 vs the 82 because I drove the 82 and I didn't like the balance of the car. I felt the back end wanted to step faster then the 80 and not a huge fan of the overall look. G80 it was.

So currently I have 1254 miles on the car. Did the 1200 break in service, buncha horseshit if you ask me. Break it in how you're going to drive it. Rings etc are all seated from the factory during the initial test before it even hits the dealer. So whats the point? If it's going to break, I want it to break right away. Not 7500 miles later. I build 200+ engines for our bikes all the time. Brand new rings seals etc, yes we break them in on our dyno to seat them and heat cycle the engine etc BUT if the car came from factory pretested and seated then I really dont understand the point? Ive built motors and been in a pinch at the track and not had time to break them in properly and just sent them out to race and no issues. Some even dyno'd higher when we got back to the shop.

So, I have done the following so far:
-Rayno S9 Limo Tint all 5 windows
-Rayno S9 30% on the windshield
-IND Carbon Seat Backs
-BMS Clutch Bump Stop
-Uniden S7 Radar Detector
-Blendmount Radar Mount with mirror tap

Ordered and waiting arrival:
-PSI Non Resinated Mid Pipe
-IND Reflector Delete Front
-IND Reflector Delete Rear
-AST Springs
-Future Classic Wheel Spacers 13/15MM
-Full 3M Xpel Wrap

I am working with 3 companies/tuners from 3 different countries to crack this ECU so we can get into the fun stuff. Turbo Swaps, tuning etc. My goal is a streetable 700WHP. Not going to touch the motor until tuning options are available as it all seems pointless.

I also purchased the AST springs just because I cant stand the wheel gap. I am talking with KW and Ohlins on setups for this car and how soon we can get them to market. I work with Ohlins on the bike side so Im working with my team to see what we can get situated for the car.

I have the car going up on our lift in another week for us to see what can be done on Titanium fasteners as well as what we can improve on for now. I know boost will change so will my intercoolers etc so just prepping to see whats up.

As for the rest of the cosmetics. Im in touch with Vorsteiner closely as they finish up there carbon kit. I dont want the M carbon stuff. Everyone has it plus is a MAJOR M Tax and I just think aftermarket will be cleaner and offer more bang for the buck, but we shall see.

I know this isn't the most exciting thread at the moment but hope as things are released and we R&D more it'll be a good build!

Thanks and stay tuned for posts weekly!

----------------EDIT!!!!!!!

So the AST springs were taking way too long. MSS kit will be in my hands end of the week. Also got a line on custom BBS E89's in satin black. Will post pics of test fit to see if I like em. If not, FIR it is.

Car went in for round 1 of PPF Xpel as Im not doing the whole car until Vorsteiner gets the kit handled with me. Then a full wrap.

Subtracted: AST Springs , 12mm x 15mm wheel spacers
Added: BBS E89 20x10 20x11

Car in shop: Xpel PPF whole front end - Ceramic coating as well

EDIT 7/19/21

Well some of the mods are in and some driving has commenced.

PSI Midpipe INSTALLED
MSS INSTALLED
Future Classic Spacers INSTALLED

So let's start with the PSI. I think it sounds fantastic. Great tone, low rumble on downshifts and decel. Cold start and valve open starts its very very loud but a nice tone IMO. Not everyones cup of tea but I do enjoy it. Not too loud and def not too quiet. Don't feel any power gains (didn't expect to) but many more smiles per hour for sure.

MSS. Have the front slammed on max setting and rear on 8mm from max low. Looks: front needs to come down at least another 15mm or more to be correct. MSS claims it'll settle but I don't believe it. 15mm is a lot. Ride quality is great on street with no noticeable changes. Just a responsive and tracks great. Camber is set near OEM at the moment but will be changing alignment when BBS installed. Ride isn't harsh and can for sure feel the difference in each mode. Very responsive BUT not giving 100% as waiting for front to finish. Currently running the OEM rubber spacers instead of the MSS units as they are a bit thinner. I have seem some people on the forum flipping springs, and shocks all together as well as removing the height adjuster in the front to get maximum drop. I didn't trust it as some of the mating surfaces didn't mount flush and would stress the shock. One guy ran the front without the height adjuster all together. Great looking but after mocking up on my car, seemed to be a band aid AND will stress front members incorrectly along with potentially prematurely blowing out the shock. Not worth it IMO. Will find another way to get the aesthetic Im looking for.

Future classic: They're spacers. If they work there great if they don't work there junk. Pretty simple. These work lol

So I took the car to the track for the first time with the above changes. Car is savage. The MDM is great and very tunable. Predictive in each setting with very precise amounts of slip change per setting. Very very nice. Happy with the electronics for sure.

Brakes: SUCK! The brakes faded after one lap and left me second guessing my brake markers by the second session. Pad bite felt fine, but the stock fluid is trash. Boiling for sure. I dont know the wet point on the OEM fluid but either Motul 660/700 or SRF will be going in right away. I will be ordering the EBC pads and trying them as well.
Coming off each session (10mins or so, it was hot AF out) upon parking in the garage the brakes were smoking. Powering off the car and not applying the parking brake helped to cool as did fans but they were smoking for sure.

Power delivery is precise and felt very manageable. Didn't chirp tires or spin uncontrollable. (Michelin P4S4 tires). Im sure if I move to CUP2's ill be happier with my corner speed and exit speeds.

Car doesn't like to initiate turn on throttle. I felt that the front pushed a bit (understeer) (keep in mind the setup is slightly choppered out since MSS install) but if allowed to correct by pedaling through initial turn in the car hooks up nicely. Once pointed correctly using minor mid corner throttle inputs the car seemed to hook and drive off apex very well. Manageable for sure. Big smiles all around. Really impressed.

All and all Im very happy with the car and looking forward to the next steps in the build. More coming soon and stay tuned for a big pic dump!

Love everything but the limo tint. I would have put 60-70 on that and let that gorgeous red pop out a little. But thats just me.

Sounds like a great project, should be really interesting to see what can be achieved!

By 'stick on' do you mean it's like a 3M type solution? The price seems insane for a piece of wrap? Looks nice tho!

Nah it's not a wrap. Real weave rigid carbon. Just mounts to seat back with 3m style tape.

Beautiful. Love the Fiona interior. I really wish they would allow it with the carbon buckets. My car is sitting at the port in Germany waiting for a boat ride over. I have the kw has kit on order. Hopefully arrives the same time the car does.

OMG thats insane lol. They are one of the hottest factory seats ive seen. Crazy that its only a $3800 option for them from the factory.

Hey so I'm pretty much speccing the 2022 car Im ordering exactly like this (you commented on my thread).

Few questions:

The back of the seat has a carbon piece—is that part of the carbon interior trim? I originally had mine specced to be piano black but I love how that turned out and I think I should change mine to carbon.

Do you have any photos of the front of the sites and the rear seats?

Also how's the visibility with that level of tint? Thinking about getting the same done.

Thank you

Thanks! The seat back is the IND carbon cover. They all come black.
I dont have any additional pics of the seats at the moment as the car is torn down for its build at the moment.
The tint is Limo all around and 30% on the windshield. zero viability issues.
