First and foremost Jon, welcome to BimmerPost.

Furthermore, welcome to the BMW family; it seems are a very fortunate man; getting a code 150 is very exciting (although not as exciting as when you drive away with your beautiful car when ready).

Be sure to let us know when you pick it up; new car photos are like adrenaline @bimmerPost

Jon, what brand do you come from? I'll try to ease you over. There's always a few oddities from brand to brand. Here's a few I remember. Some are fixed in iDrive7. Some are not. These were present in iDrive6. Some can be fixed with Bimmercode, which I highly suggest you buy a supported dongle and the app.

1. You have to turn on the cruise control each time after starting the car, every single time! It doesn't remeber how it wwas last yet. (on) Most cars you can just hit resume/set and this will also turn on CC as well. Doing that on a BMW before you hit CC on does nothing. It's frustrating but you learn to deal with it.
2. If you have the radio on and turn the car off, the radio will keep playing. (normal) However if you open the door, the radio will keep playing, (I find this different than any other brand though I understand why.) The radio will stay on after you exit the car and until you lock it. You can prevent this by turning the car off twice (or you can code it to turn off with the door with Bimmercode)
3. I'm told this is fixed with iDrive7, but another oddity. The car will lock the doors automatically above 10-15 MPH. However if you park the car, there's nothing in the menu's to automatically unlock either drivers or all doors. You can code/fix this with Bimmercode as well or you can get used to having to pull the door handle twice.
4. On DSG models (not the G80/G82/G83) and try to turn the ignition off while the car is in neutral. Holy hell does the car get pissed. Rather than put the transmission in park for you (like every other car) it lets you turn the ignition off but you get nasty warnings about the car being in neutral. It doesn't give you the option of pulling the parking brake and being happy either. You absolutely have to start the car again and put it in either D or R and then turn it off. There's no P on DSG models so you have to use their rigid procedure.

This isn't a testimonial for Bimmercode but BMW seems to have more oddities than any other brand I've driven. I enjoyed my M2 Comp but I hope my M4 has less of these oddities! I'd love to be in their focus groups.

Thanks for the insight! Im excited to finally be driving a BMW. Ive had a few cars of the years. Ive had numerous cars from mustangs to GTIs. Currently due to having two car seats lol we have an SUV and Truck, but I decided trucks are super boring to drive and want a fun family car so it was time for a bucket list car the M3.

Congrats on your order! The wait can be difficult but it'll be so worth it once you see your car for the first time. The G80 is truly one of the best cars in the world you won't be disappointed. Get it ceramic coated!

Is ceramic coating and ppf the same? Any recommendations on what to get done?

I got mine in late May. I worked with Tricia. Really a top notch crew and they made everything super easy. No games.

No, they are not the same. PPF is a paint protection film, kind of like a screen protector if you will. It helps preserve the paint, from rock chips, scratches, UV rays, etc.

Ceramic coating is a chemical polymer that is applied to the paint. It'll protect your paint from bird droppings, water spots, or any other stains that may potentially damage it. Other pluses, it makes your car easier to clean due to its hydrophobic nature and gives you a nice gloss. It will not protect it from rock chips or scratches though.

You can apply ceramic coating on PPF as well. Get double protection.

I've done PPF on my entire car and ceramic coated it. Also ceramic coated the wheels. Car looks like new after every wash. No scratches or chips to look at.

Ceramic coating and PPF are different, complementary ways to protect the paint. There's tons of content (videos, advice and opinions) on this forum, YouTube, etc.

Long story short, PPF will protect the paint from rock chips, minor scratches, bird droppings, etc., because it's a plastic film laid on top of the paint surface. Ceramic coating is essentially an extra hard, extra durable replacement for wax or paint sealant. You can use ceramic coating over PPF, or use it on panels not covered by PPF.

Congrats on the allocation! I'm also in ABQ and I just picked up my PB over KYO G82X last Friday from Sandia (is Kurt your CA?). This is the culmination of a 12 year dream for me, and man the wait was killer.

Good luck with the (hopefully not too long) long waiting game. I'm looking forward to seeing more current-gen M3/4's in NM!

Also: I have an appt this week with Hella Clean in ABQ for PPF + Ceramic Coat. If you're interested, I'll give you my thoughts once they finish wrapping the car (and I can finally, FINALLY drive it ...)

150% PPF the entire car. No question. Don't even think twice about it. Trust me

I've had my car keyed twice and the PPF saved me. It didn't even penetrate past the film. It's also good to maintain the health of the paint over the years. A car as beautiful as that deserves it!

Congratulations and enjoy in good health.

I'm not the only one who finds it really annoying how pissed off the car gets when I do this on my F82!! Hahaha....so annoying.

No not the same , in fact there are different levels within each. In general, protective film cost more but can be more effective against physical damage, ie stone chips. Much post here about this and much info on YouTube. Get all the info you can and do what works for you. For me I like to detail my own car and went with ceramic coating. Best of luck with your new ride !
