Great idea
I have a G83 on order. I live in an old (American standards) neighborhood on an urban lot and despite having had several nice cars have no garage and building one is not possible.
I am having a vaguely illegal roof put over part of the driveway to provide cover to my M4. I’d kill for the garage you’re building and fully support your decision to build one for a new car. Good luck-

My fellow Americans shit up about the garage size.
To my countrymen- stop going about the garage not being big enough!
You all have European cars. Let our Scottish co-enthusiast be excited about his Glaswegian-sized garage that is going to protect his German car. Granted that having more space for things like garages and decent sized refrigerators with ice makers is a real benefit to living in the US but size doesn’t always matter……….

For years I've lived in flats (apartments) with no garage, no storage for car stuff and nowhere to put a nice clean car after a wash and some love. It's great you have some option at least for your car. Even covering over it is a lot better and I hope you get a good result. Ps/ love the G83 it's so much nicer with the hardtop gone 😊

Nice progress there @Custom. Or should I call you Mr. Install? LOL
I build a (woodworking) workshop myself a few years ago. The physically toughest part was hauling all of those materials up on the roof (plywood, shingles) but it was a fun project. Sure, it didn't have a proper foundation and kind of settled a bit and twisted such that I couldn't open the door, and I made a lot of other mistakes, but it never leaked in the rain and never caught on fire, so I count that as a win.

I have a garage for the m3 but planning to build a garage extension next spring so I can keep my 72 Mercedes 300 SEL there instead of renting space at my friend's shop over the winter. Of course I am going to need a lot more room for that behemoth!

Garage build update
It's been slow progress due to work commitments but delighted with how it's coming along.
Roof almost complete, still got gutters and some edge details to sort. Bi-Folds are now installed, an absolute game changer and it helps bring in loads of natural light. Power and Wi-Fi installed and I have ordered a cabinet array for the rear wall. Ceiling will be clad in anthracite panels and hexagonal led light array installed along with SwissTrax incorporating the M Colours The roller door is 4 weeks away and I will be cladding the external walls vertically with charcoal composite boards early next year. I expect delivery of my G82 next week all going well so will make a temporary garage door cover.

Thanks. It's been a learning curve for sure, sometimes I wonder what I'm doing but you always get there in the end. When you do work yourself you can take your time and get things perfect.

Car arrived at dealers today so I got a quick look, next week before I take delivery, hopefully Wednesday.
Initial thoughts: FDG is beyond my expectations. For the last few months I've seen lots of FB examples and very little FDG online. I'm now 100% that FDG is exactly what I'd hoped. Almost black but light enough to see the contrast in the black body parts. The pictures look nothing like the car in person. I also won the tyre lottery. Waiting at home I have: R44 front spoiler and side blades. 13/10 spacers. IND black front/back BMW badges. Have it booked in for front window tints (not as dark as factory rears, somewhere in-between) I may lower it but I doubt it. Looking to keep it OEM+ 5 months waiting, worth every single minute.

I really enjoy watching your progress. This thread is awesome! Keep updating with photos as more work is done! Also congrats on soon taking delivery of your car. I waited 7 months for mine and i agree it was all worth the wait.

I love what you did with the window/sliding doors; that's going to be the brightest garage in the entire country
Well done, very well done

I've always wanted to have a garage, the doors just add something special to it. I cycle a lot and service my own bikes so it's ideal for doing that light wise. Cheers
