I daily drive this M3 everyday in Bay Area, San Francisco, Oakland traffic, through the hood, and park it in long term airport parking. I paid close to $92k for this car, I'm gonna use it.

Dude if you can, do it. Even if you're not a corvette fan, do it anyway.

This is GM's first supercar, in my opinion. Corvette z06's have always had supercar performance but lacked being an actual supercar. But if GM does this right with the C8 z06, this WILL BE GM's first supercar. I'll miss the pushrod sound but i know i'll still be happy hearing the flat plane crank sound as well. It'll be my poor man's ferrari LOL

What I found *for me* was manuals were easier to drive in traffic b/c I wasn't constantly shifting my right foot btw the brake and accelerator pedal in heavy traffic like I would have to in an automatic. I basically had left foot on clutch and rt foot on accelerator and just creeped along, almost never having to brake.

These were real commutes... not 200-300 miles like you did, but I'm talking about 17-25 mile commutes that still took an hour to 1.5 hours each freaking way. Man that sucked (in general).

I had a 300ZXTT manual back in the day. I put like 60K+ miles on that car in about 4 yrs. It was my dream car at the time, but I didn't give a rats ass how many miles I put on it because I loved driving it and it was my only car.

I had a 300ZXTT as well lol. 1993. This was when i had my FD3S rx7 too. Great cars. Until every issue involves basically taking out every single thing in the engine bay. That got old quick and some dude from upstate new york came with his GF and took it off me. Made a small profit too lol.

But i have never found driving a manual easier in stop and go traffic than auto. Especially these days with auto's, most if not all cars come with auto hold so you don't even need to have your foot rest on the brake pedal. It'll hold the brake pedal for you, illuminating your brake lights as well for safety.

I daily drove a 2000 civic SI with a 6 puck clutch for almost a year. I wanted to end my life. IN the morning was great cause no traffic. Going home, i wanted to drive the car off a cliff.

My c7 z06 is the only manual i have left. And even when i drive it on the weekends and i encounter those rare traffic jams, really made me start to dislike manuals.

This is unique and different for everyone. I personally drive the crap out of my cars. I love buying others peoples car at low mileage with 20-30% depreciation. I bought a 2016 charger Hellcat in early 2018 with 2600 miles. Sticker was 71, I got it for 53500. I drove it for 3 1/2 years and put 38k on it, broke a tranny and ran 9s with it. I had so much fun with it, it wasn't even my daily but I used it to get avocados for my wife, any chance to drive it. Trade it in for 50k .

One of my biggest regret was not using my M2 during winter for the 3 years I've owned it.

I still believe some cars are a waist during the winter like a GT4/GT3 or some very low aero carbon equipped special editions like the upcoming CSL but I promised myself to appreciate more all my future cars.

I agree.

I've owned 3 generations of corvette already and the C8 is looking to be the best one. Love how it evolved.

And it brought so many new audiences too. From people who never liked corvettes, now all of a sudden is interested in one. As proven by your post.

GM is going to be making supercar slayers starting with the z06. And there's still a lot more variants left lol.

And people were making fun of GM all these years...........pff

Lol they've definitely caught my attention! Can't wait to see what's to come. So I can keep it in something like this. And never drive it.

Hell, I already plan to pop in a couple car seats in the back to shuttle the kids around in it (as there's no room to do that in the FRS anyhow) so it can't get more daily driver than that. Seeing others on here talk about how far their work commutes are too is making me realize 40 miles rt isn't bad enough to warrant the headache of keeping another car around and paying for its insurance/registration. Off to autotrader the FRS will go... I will miss you old friend.
Yeah man, you're doing the right thing! Mine will have child seats in the back too. Use it and enjoy it. The extra insurance and depreciation on the FRS will offset the depreciation on the M3, but you get to drive and enjoy your M3 every day.

When I first got my M2 6spd my plan was to use it as a fun / weekend car. The first winter I had it, I ended up getting snow tires mounted because I loved driving it so much and ended up commuting in it 40~ miles round trip every day. Rain or snow, it didn't matter. That car was a beast in the snow with proper tires. The funny thing is, at the time I also had a 2 year old Ram 1500 limited that I could have taken out at any time in the winter, but didn't. I just enjoyed driving the M that much more, even in the snow.

I also plan on DDing my G80. With the way things are going it'll be here just in time for winter 2022 lol.

To help me decide it would be good to know just how well suited an m3 (or really any 500 hp sports car) is for daily driving. I understand it can be done, but if I have the option of keeping a cheap, low maintenance car around and using that for routine, rush hour traffic drives, is that preferable?

While I don't really need the money, I will say that the idea of being able to sell my whoopdie for almost $20k when I paid just $25k for it 9 years ago is pretty tempting just on sheer principle alone.
These cars are just souped up 3 series. I suggest driving it daily and enjoying it. Plus they have the autonomous driving for that reason

I think the entire point of the M3 is a daily driver. I am debating on an Emira as my daily. lol

Exactly what I'm thinking. It's a 3/4 series. It's built to drive all the time. It's not a GT-3

And i agree with others. M3's are cars you daily drive. They're not impractical sports car. They're big power family cars. Use it.

While i did lease my M3C, even if i didn't, i intend to use it. Leasing it just makes me care about the long term of the car even less lol. I am going to beat the shit out of this car just so it's nice and broken in for the next owner
I literally spun the tires driving out of the dealership when I bought my new 2015 M4. Hit 160 mph on the way home. A car is around for a good time, not a long time.

Life's too short to drive boring cars especially if you can afford it. You'll be old/dead long enough.

I would say just don't get too hung up on having the car looking immaculate. Speaking from experience you're bound to get idiots dinging your car in car parks and such the more you drive it

This kinda stuff enrages me but you just have to be thankful you get to drive these things and not cry too much over spilled milk.

I totally forgot i already replied to the thread lol. That's why i deleted that post.

But to add to what i said, it really all depends. Some cars are good for the long stretch. Some cars aren't.

I really hate to keep sounding like a broken record but personally the only cars i do keep a long time, or willing to keep a long time than usual, are my corvettes.

Other than that, my dailys and secondary toys always come and go within 2-3 years. Maybe 4 MAX.

That's the main reason why i leased the M3. I know it's a good car even though i didn't drive it yet, but at least with a lease, if you don't like the car, you give it back after 3 years. But i know it'll be a car i will have fun with for 3 years. And i'm going to return the car with ZERO miles left on the lease lol

I've been surprised at how much of a daily driver my G80 has been the past month. I've driven it literally everyday and it is amazingly well mannered when in comfort mode. Then you push one of the M buttons and look out! It transforms instantly into a beast. Push it again, and its back to being a comfortable luxury sedan. Kind of a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I love being in one of the M modes around town and then going into low profile mode as soon as I turn the corner into my neighborhood.

My M3 fits 5 people (not 4) and I've used it a lot for driving little girls to soccer practice, and I haven't had any complaints...well I did have one girl say she felt sick, but that was an anomaly, lol. Absolutely a daily driver IMHO.

Also, I got all the driver assist options on my car, and it is awesome! It is basically full self driving in stop and go traffic. I found it to be extremely useful, especially in a car that just wants to go fast, it's nice to chill out and let the car drive for awhile instead of getting frustrated. Sell the other one, the M3 is the only car you will want to drive. Trust me. I look for any excuse to take the car out. I can't imagine letting it sit in the garage while I drove some other subpar car around town.

I follow the 10-ft rule with my cars. If it looks good from 10 feet away then that's good enough for me.

I babied my E92. I drive my G80 daily. The M3 excels at doing either role.

But the G80 is certainly comfortable enough to drive every day. I love mine.
