Im excited to hear some aftermarket stuff on these new set ups once they start to roll out later this year. Akra in particular however Im scared what the price will be as it seems each year they are going up!

BMW seems to have done really well with the sound though right off the jump. Nice!

Glad to see they've confirmed the EL set-up and are at least attempting to fix the sound from the previous generation. I'll admit, it still sounds more S55 than N55/B58 but there seems like a slight improvement in tone; even if volume takes a hit from OPFs.

Gotta give them credit for addressing the exhaust length equalization issue (although a bit of that S55 sound is still there).

Equal length from the factory and it seems they eliminated that s55 rattle that happens sometimes, I think it sounds pretty great!

Great work with the equal length exhaust and the bigger pipes. Good work BMW!

In terms of the sound, it sounds equally horrible to the rest of the turbo engines humankind has built, but at least this has equal length pipes to take it from a 2/10 to a 3/10 which is about as good as any of us can hope for

No worries

In general, turbo engines sound poorly as the turbo itself 'blocks' the natural engine sound. This is why turbo engines always sound poorly, whether it's a McLaren, or a 911 Turbo, etc etc.

Equal length exhaust tubes sound better than unequal length. The F8X has unequal length and finally the aftermarket has fixed this with a special exhaust/exhaust plumbing.

It seems like in the G8X we're getting equal length exhaust from the factory

In an inline 6 cylinder engine it is not so easy to make a equal length exhaust, as each cylinder is a different distance from the muffler.

Quick correction

This is why turbo engines always sound poorly compared to a similar non-turbo version, whether it's a McLaren, or a 911 Turbo, etc etc.

I wouldn't mind if the G80 sounded like my neighbor's Ferrari 488 GTB but of course his car sounds poor compared to a non-turbo Ferrari like 458 Italia or F430!

Ok thanks that helps my understanding

May have a suggestion where this is maybe shown in pictures to help me understand?

It's quiet interesting. I have read some things about different turbo technologies (twinscroll etc.) but never have seen something mentioning an issue with the lenght of the exhaust pipes.

p.s. I liked the sound of the F8X series when seeing them on the streets. But maybe most people put aftermarket solutions on it, don't know...espacially the gear changing with the DCT is lovely!

In this thread you can see in the first few posts how aftermarket exhausts can target the unequal length of the F8X generation.
In the G8X, BMW did the hard work for us
https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1675268

My F80 CS has the stock exhaust system, because between a 2/10 and a 3/10 I don't make a big fuss, but the equal length ones do sound better

I think it sounds great. EL toned down the rasp a ton. I also thought the S55 sound wasnt terrible; it was very unique/distinct especially with an Akra dp back.

It's highly likely I either keep my CS or buy a GTS to replace it

don't know how it is in the states, but here the M3CS is rare, very rare (much rarer than the M4CS) and keeps the value insanely high. Also the M2CS, especially the 6MT is nearly unfindable and if also with KM on it they nearly want the price as it was new.

Here the M3 CS is very rare indeed. The M3 stopped production much earlier than the M4, so there are very few. The M3 CS is a little like the uber 4 door M3: the CRT, the ultimate expression of the 4 door M3.

I would like to keep it *and* add a GTS, but that's a bit much. Already have a stroker E90 M3 track car, E92 M3 weekend car...
