People with Springs - Increased Rattles/Vibrations

Hi All,

I installed lowering springs and I am not sure if it is the springs, or just my door panels over time, but my car has picked up a significant amount of rattles and almost a “buzzing” noise in the drivers door panel due to vibrations.

Has anyone else that has installed springs experienced this on roads that aren’t perfect? On brand new asphalt it seems to be fine, but any rough surface my car vibrates like my e36.

Wanted to get some opinions before I take it into the dealer and see if they can help.

No issues here on a kit that has been installed on one car and then reinstalled on another. I have really good roads over all but there are some sections where I drive that are not favorable the car feels like tank.

It maybe has over 1k total miles in the kit (but neither cars had noise issues).

But the increased sensitivity of the chassis with the lowering; you might start to see and feel some chatter as miles add up.

What are you dropped on again? Spring rates could be the difference as the compression and rebound and the intensity of the process will create rattles.

Nothing here. When comparing my G80 to my F80 I don’t hear anything. Now the f80 always had that squeaky sound when the flex.

No issues here. Car has had some annoying dash (like behind screen area) kind of creaks since day 1 though.

I am on AST springs, I will probably take it in next week. I just wanted confirmation that others aren’t having the issue before they try to blame it on that.

I had rattles before installing the MSS springs, the lowered ride made the rattles a little more noticeable but did not create any new ones.

Hard to say since the car only had 1-2 k miles on it when I lowered it.

There are certainly more sounds than the day I picked the car up.

Most come and go.

The main one that's bugging me now is seemingly behind the infotainment screen.

On this one bumpy stretch of road I hear what sounds like a slight rattle coming from the passenger side a-pillar but 1) the temps are a lot colder than when I first got the car and 2) I have more lowered miles than stock miles so I can't say if it's from the springs themselves and the stiffer ride or just the nature of the car/temps.

I'm on AST also and am experiencing something similar to Corbs. It's not a rattle, I hear it when I hit a slight bump. Like the suspension creaks. It's been like 800 miles on the springs, I'm pretty sure I haven't noticed it until this weekend. Rides fine though.

DIY? Wonder if it could be tweaked bushings. Lots of possibilities.
