That’s strange I just finishing installing my set of Ohlins for RWD two days ago. I have a good amount of space to lower the car more if I wanted to.

Still waiting for ohlins to get back to me but me and my installer seem to think ohlins may have packed the wrong front struts in the box. We took a bunch of measurements of the install and of the strut body itself. We were not even able to get the ohlins recommended specs of 1mm of preload. 173mm tophat to spring perch. 132 shock height collar to spring perch. The 132 is the height from the bottom of the preload collar to the top of the shock height collar I’m at 152mm. I have the shock collar as high as it can go and so the the only way to get the 20 mm is eliminate all the preload and spin the preload collar down but then the 173 wouldn’t be correct. Long and short the front struts are too long and in their current length it’s physically impossible to achieve the ohlins specs. I have not heard back from ohlins so the above is based on what I can see but there is an error somewhere whether it’s the recommended specs or the wrong shock. All I can say something definitely isn’t right. Harold at HP autosport has been great so far. I’ve been in contact with him and he’s been spearheading the tech support here with ohlins. Now that sema is over hopefully we hear something this coming week.

California. The suspension is very stiff. But I do have all the SPL Arms installed in my car which does allow the suspension to travel for freely then the OEM bushings.

The camber plates Ray is using from Vorshlag have the same spring stack height as OE but has a TALLER strut stack height from OE. This allows the top of the strut ("pin") to fit below where the camber plate is bolted to the body to allow the "pin" of the strut to fit UNDER the body for additional camber adjustability.
This poses a problem as this added strut height relative to OE can have a number of less preferred results. First, it could reduce bump travel if you cannot adjust how far the strut casing can be adjusted into the suspension upright (like the R&T's unique feature owners like so much). The problem with xDrive cars is you can simply adjust the strut extremely low relative to the upright because the axle boot is there. This is the situation Ray is in with the Vorshlag mounts and is why owners retaining the OE mounts do not have a similar issue. Millway reports specifically having the same stack height as OE for the spring AND the shock. This is important as manufacturers like Öhlins develop their street-oriented suspension systems retaining the OE top mount and it's geometry. Hope this helps clarify the circumstances. |

Any updates from Ohlins? I just installed mine on my M4 xDrive and the rear damper adjustment doesn't make sense. In one direction which I assume is stiff, it just clicks til it doesn't click anymore and then the adjuster gets loose. In the other direction, which I assume is soft, it will click forever, beyond 20-30 clicks. The front dampers have a clear stop at full soft/stiff.

Yeah everything was sorted. We ended up installing helper springs.

For street cars we typically go with 10 clicks for Ohlins R&T.
