IND G8X M3 / M4 Painted Rear Reflector Install Guide
Painted reflectors are always among the first additions made by any owner of a modern BMW. Thanks to the U.S. DOT, the unsightly orange reflectors installed in cars bound for North America continue to break the smooth lines of BMW bumpers. While it appears BMW is trying to mitigate how much reflectors stick out like a sore thumb by now slightly tinting them on the G8x chassis, IND continues to provide painted reflectors as a cost effective solution to delete them. We start the process using the OE BMW reflectors for a factory fit, and the same paint process we would use to spray an entire car. Each reflector is sanded, prepped for paint, primed, then painted. We ensure that all lettering on the face of the reflector is completely removed providing the same finish as your factory bumper. Many enthusiasts enjoy installing their own painted reflectors, so we’ve created this installation DIY to help with video at the end. Tools needed:
Step 1: Raise the car safely using an automotive lift or jack with adequate support. Remove three 8mm screws from inside the fender liner area. Step 2: With the liner screws removed, gently peel it back and remove the T20 torx screw that holds the factory bumper panel to the fender. Step 3: Remove three 8mm screws from the bottom of the bumper panel. With the hardware removed, peeling the bumper away from the body will allow adequate access to the back of the factory rear reflector. Step 4: Release the OE rear reflector by simultaneously squeezing the three retaining tabs and pulling it away from the bumper. Step 5: Installation is the reverse of removal. Fit the bumper back into place and reinstall all hardware. Finish the installation by pressing the painted IND replacement into place with uniform pressure.
