Anybody ditch their key and only use their iPhone/Apple watch? This feature looks cool, but maybe not all that useful to use exclusively

Does the g80/g82 have the same heads up display as any other existent M car? I'd like to get an idea of what it looks like.

i tried the key card thing for a day imagine the funcaionty is the same for using iOS product (NFC chip I believe). Reaction time is a bit slow, plus you can't open the trunk tthis ay if the car is locked. Also for key card specifically you have to place it on the wireless charger to start the car, but thats not an issue when using iOS devices so that's a plus there...

Here you go. Two pics. Both at idle startup. One is on "Road" mode, and the other on "Sport" mode. The gear you select will be a number right on top of your MPH

Here's a few more too: I took some that has both "Road" and "Sport" modes on, but with gear engaged, with GPS running from Apple CarPlay, and the media selection screen. Hope this helps as well:

3) Any pictures of the actual key fob? Looking for a case for it already

Thanks!!
Looks like DecemberStorm took care of questions 2 and 3, so I'll show you my measurements for the 6MT phone charger plate. Pardon the crude pics, as I couldn't fit my camera phone into the center console.

I just measured the actual chargeable area, and it's about 6 inches by 2.75-3 inches. Hope this helps!

Does this car have adaptive cruise? I was just watching the Harry's Garage YouTube review and it had a Tesla-like view of other nearby vehicles on the cluster and he stated it does some light lane keep steering while driving in addition to adaptive cruise. I noticed none of these things during my test drive and the manual doesn't mention it from my quick search. 🤷

Thank you sir - two questions. How large is the hud? I don't know if you've had any cars with huds before, but if you have, does is strike you as being bigger than those? Smaller? About the same?

Then, with regards to the directions in the hud, is it pulling those from Apple Maps or from Waze? Does it only work with one? Both?

Active Driving Assistant Pro, part of the Driving Assistance Professional Package, which offers camera/radar-based driver assistance systems and Extended Traffic Jam Assistant providing partially automated steering input on limited-access highways - I want to say this doesn't work for manual cars, but I'm not 100%

Sweet, thanks. I'm hoping not to have to carry my keys anymore.

This is actually my first car with a HUD, so I wouldn't be able to give you an accurate comparison on the size versus other makes and models. Anyone willing to chime in?

The HUD Navi directions I showed was pulled from Apple Maps. I have Waze as well and I'll try it tomorrow and let you know/show you if there are any differences!

What about the lag/delay (reaction time) the previous poster mentioned? Is it an issue for you?

Jcali86 is right. Its the off centered radar sensor in the lower grill, if that's not there then the car doesn't have the package.

System works well in my limited testing so far and includes the Tesla-esque gimmicks like the graphics of other traffic and self lane changes. The steering wheel is pressure sensitive so you don't necessarily have to move the steering wheel to prove hands-on, pressure alone would suffice for highway cruising.

The low speed traffic jam assist (up to 60kph/~40mph) is the coolest part, does all the work by itself and you can be hands off completely. The infrared camera in the gauge cluster reads your eyes to see if you are looking in the right place.

I've had HUD in a couple of my previous cars, most recent of which being a B9 gen Audi S4. This is the largest size by far. I would say that the "reduced height" option on the G8X HUD would make the size comparable to those other cars.

Yes the nav direction does pull from carplay/android auto apps which is fantastic integration on BMW's part. I wouldn't know apple maps but waze and google maps work fine on Android Auto. You get the arrow and street name, but it's not as comprehensive as the full map display you'd get from the built-in NAV.

The other good use of the larger HUD real estate is the ability to scroll through entire media list (radio stations, spotify playlists etc)

Thanks for the sanity check - I just went and looked at the picture I took that day and sure enough - it didn't have the radar sensor so the sales guy must have told me the wrong info.

What do you think of the system overall? Is it a nice-to-have vs a must-have? Too early to tell? I don't really drive in traffic any more so I don't think I'd get full use out of it. I do take a few road trips every year, wondering if it can eliminate fatigue on after a few hours of Nebraska interstate...

Anyone spring for the gimmicky display key?

I’ve seen it’s capabilities on the 7 (it’s basically the BMW app in a key) but wondering if the same UI carries over to the G8X.

I’ve only seen one person with it so far and it was in a YouTube video.
