Canceling G8x Order

Out of curiosity, has anyone actually canceled their order after having lost patience waiting for their car?

Unless you want a base model Hyundai with no options, you need a whole lot of patience to find a new car these days and it's going to get worse before it gets better.

This. There isn't a lot of options, unless you want to overpay for something on the lot. I almost canceled for a car that was incoming, and it was supposed to be MSRP, but they were messing with the numbers, and it wasn't exactly what I wanted, so I passed.

I started thinking to cancel my order after being delayed for the third time. But.....what does the market offers? not so much in this period. The only thing to do is to take patience......maybe for those of us who have an allocation at least.

I might have my order canceled by BMW. They already pushed my order to the next year after the initial build week planned for mid-August so I'm ready for everything now.

I have been scouring the various dealers for any potential cancelled orders coming in...I would seriously consider a cancelled order if it met 80% of my ordered spec.

I'm lucky in that I already have a car I love. I would just keep it. I'd like to grab the arbitrage equity in the used market now, but it wouldn't be the end of the world. Just wondering if anyone has. I haven't seen any threads about it.

Yeah, like I mentioned in some other thread: I got an update last week that due to restrictions on Laserlights, HUD, HK, and 360 cameras my order was pushed to the next year. Nothing has been mentioned which week or at least which month of next year so I got a plenty to choose from.

I won't follow the forums closely (or at least this section) anymore because I don't want to go crazy. Also, I made my mind that I won't wait a year for that car so if it's not produced by May 25th, 2022 I'm gonna cancel the order.
In the meantime, I've been warming up to a Porsche. I hear they don't segregate clients as BMW does.

I'm sorry to hear that. They dont even give you build week in 2022?
To be honest with yourself in your position I would have cancelled the order if that's the case.
It is a shame what they doing to you guys in Poland.

I mean that there were and will be numerous cars built with the same options that are restricted for my market. These cars were ordered and allocated later than mine. People are delayed a couple of weeks yet I've been delayed several times and now delayed indefinitely

More like segregating markets…certain markets are having cars built with any and all options fitted whereas other markets are barely having cars go through production, and if they do the cars are automatically downgraded to standard spec options where those are available.

I know....you're right. It's frustrating to see cars with the same specs as yours, order after yours....produced before yours. It's what i'm experiencing too.

As far as Porsche is concerned, it's my second choice as for now. I'll be patient until the end of the year...then I'll see what to do if it won't arrive.

In your case.....I know the feelings you're experiencing......

I think we will see cancelations soon. Based on rumors, BMW halted all G8* production lines because of a bearing shell issue that they are not sure how to solve yet.
Overall, G8* added one more downside to it on top of the super controversial front grill (I like it, but we all know the elephant in the room). Risk of getting a faulty car that BMW now trying to hide under the rug (not official comments about whole mess yet + quiet removal of the issue from recall API) making it even more questionable choise.

No, believe me, these are only rumors. My friend in Munich told me that the production is going on normally both in Munich plant and in Dingolfing one.

The bearing shell issue, as of today, is a circumscribed problem to a certain production batch between july and mid september. Not all the engines produced in these period are affected, the ones using a specific bearing batch.

Because BMW's removal of the issue from the API super fast makes me believe that there is more to that story and they should go official on it.
The overall issue is pretty hidden now and everything looks like BMW does not want the general public to know about it at any cost. They do provide different info to different dealers, not telling what exactly will be done to fix it and why they now cutting pretty much all allocations to all dealerships.

I want to be optimistic (I'm still pending delivery of my car, as its arriving at the US port tonight) but everything looks too suspicious gelated to the G8* series.

The problem is that to fix it, the engine must be opened.

Man, even if you get a car that’s not affected at all, this is going to leave a major stain on this model year and maybe even the whole generation when it comes to re-sale.

don't think so. Also the E46 had an important engine problem (Vanos), and even that, the issue hasn't affected the re-sale price at all.
