Stock Headlights vs Icon Headlights

Hello All.

Could you help me to understand the main difference between stock and icon headlights?

when they are off, is there any visible difference?(Like that blue detail?)

Is this option worth it?

(I'm thinking to replace it to the carbon fiber seats)

Thank you

Do you mean laser light option? Just for clarity as that is how the upgrade is listed on BMW's site. At least for the US it is.

The Icon has the iconic BMW light "rings" while the standard has the lower half of the circle lit up, I'd even say less than half. 100% get them.

Not an expert but here's what I've researched. Both are LED headlights.

Standard lights are LED low and high beam, and blinker is separate outer corner, DRLs are much smaller, lower portion only.

Laserlight version is adaptive LED low beam and laser high beam. DRLs are much bigger halo design and blinker changes outer DRL to amber when used.

DOT restricts what can be done with laser headlights. European version is amazing, with light changing around cars, pedestrians and such automatically.

Personally, even though the laser lights are somewhat crippled in the US, I think the look alone is worth the price. And you can code back in a lot (although maybe not all) of the removed functionality with Bimmercode - totally worth it in my book. Watching the beams steer around oncoming cars is quite the party trick.

So the spec I bought have just the LEDs

Does anybody know about feasibility of swapping the LEDs with the laser lights and are the laser lights available to purchase?

It's technically possible, but buying the option from the factory is going to be far, far cheaper. It'll probably be $5k+ for the retrofit (including parts, labor, and recoding) from a dealer.

Can you elaborate? I don't see anything related to the laser lights or adaptive lighting under https://bimmercode.app/cars/g20/ ?

People I know that wanted to retrofit the lasers on the G05 were quoted about $4k per headlight module, then you have to re-program the car too. The programming *might* be the bigger challenge if you can get past the cost of parts.

The X5 assembly sells for $5,780.66 and can be found discounted I'm sure. Didn't spot the part # or price for a G8x yet.

There is pair for a G82 on eBay right now for $4,900 (says they are from "test" cars).

I need to confirm my build since my allocation is for November and I had some doubts about this icon laser headlights.

Thank you all

You have to do advanced mode, check the bimmercode thread here: https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...7&postcount=59

In the US the lasers don't have the same range as in Europe. In addition the anti-dazzle feature is disabled in the US market. You can't do anything about the lasers but you can VO code the anti-dazzle feature back which is what I did on my G05 and will on the G82 when it arrives. None of the VO coding is able to be done in Bimmercode. Haven't checked lately so I am not sure if this is something you can code with Bimmercode or not.

It is possible to code with Bimmercode, but not entirely, I've done what's described in that post, and I definitely got new functionality from the car as compared to stock - the car leaves the high beams on when possible, and the beams noticeably steer around oncoming traffic. However, there are some even more advanced coding items that aren't available in Bimmercode (Requires "Esys", I'm not personally familiar with it) which I have not done, per that other post, related to beam shaping. And agreed, I have also heard that there are just some raw output differences between EU and US that unfortunately we probably can't work around.

I used esys to VO code the lights and when they sent over the air updates it actually improved the functionality. The other nice thing about VO coding is I never had to re-program like most things you can do in Bimmercode. A few people said they had to re-code but I never had to. In the last two years I have NEVER had a single car bright me when it had most of the brights one. Works very well.

Get them, they are awesome once you program the anti-dazzle function back.

Can the Laser lights be coded to have the distance and anti dazzle installed like how they should be?

There is no better light output than my previous F80.

People get caught up too much in options. I have made the mistakes in the past. You never get the resale of the options when you sell. How often do you really drive at night? I rarely drive at night. It seems like a waste of money to me.
