Typical time for car to be at "Production Begins?

My car entered "Production Begins" status a week ago - how long does it usually stay at this status?

Car is 2022 M4C convertible Dravite Gray, Moonlight Black top. No unusual options outside of paint.

Mine was in a production begins status for 10 days before switching to Exterior Body Assembly Begins on the 11th day. Production begins essentially means they have assigned you a chassis and they are lining up all the various parts for your car to be built once it hits the assembly line.

Im not sure which assembly line the convertible is built on. It seems like people ordering M3s, the Munich plant is much faster. The Dingolfing Plant is a little slower, but they also assemble Rolls Royce, i4, and other cars. I also have a ram chip stop sale, at the port. Some cars have been at the port for 30-4 days, waiting on electronics work orders to be comepleted.

Ordered 7/14
Production Begins: 7/29
Exterior Body Assembly: 8/24
Bremerhaven Port: 8/28
Depart: 9/5
Arrive at Port Hueneme SoCal: 10/6

Wait time out, i never understood the stop sale.

So if your car was paused because of the stop sale, doesn't that mean 100% of every car that's been produced would go through the same thing?

Like what would be different from 1 group of cars vs the next group?

The car is fully assembled, and has shipped, however, apparently, because I havent seen the car, its missing parts, and will be held at the delivery port awaiting a RAM MODULE of some sort.

There is no clear answer. It just varies. I was stuck at production begins for 20 days before I moved to Exterior Body Assembly. I was also stuck in the paint booth for 10+ days while others were there for just a day. It's bizzare. Best thing to do is take a hiatus from checking the status and come back after some time rather than checking daily.

That's what i mean though.

So if your car is held up awaiting a module, does that mean every single car that went through assembly, leaving the factory, will ALL go through the same thing? Meaning every single car leaving the factory?

If not, what makes some cars pass and some at a stop sale?

Idk if i'm making sense lol

different options will require different parts. tech options like active parking etc will require microprocessor and memory chips that are in short supply at the moment.

No, it's just the draw of the luck. I have a stop sale on my car for the RAM module, but there are some folks that came off the assembly line after I did and they do not have a stop sale.

I'm guessing when my car was being built they did not have inventory of the part, but once the other cars made their way on the assembly line they had the parts available. To be honest none of this whole build process has made sense to me. You just simply can't apply what others went through to your case. It's so random.

How do you guys know if you have a stop sale? Will it show up somewhere when you log into mybmw?

I have ZERO options to my M3C. Not a single thing added.

I should be good to go right? lol

Yeah. Unfortunately Just In Time inventory doesn't work well when there a large scale supply chain issues. It may also depend on where the vehicle is going. Since those shortfalls are deferred to VPC install at ports, the supply situation there is going to impact the timeframe as well. Basically just a crapshoot in reality.

Hopefully you should be, but you have radio, HK audio, etc right? Some of the stop sales seems to be for standard items too. But yeah not having much tech will lower your likelihood of a stop sale.

Ahh gotcha, thanks. I'm still learning as i go.

This is the first time i ever had a car built for me, and having to wait for it. And i'll most likely be going through the same thing in a years time with my c8 z06 build as well. All my cars i leased or bought in the past has been dealer stock.

I've accepted reality that the car will still take long before i have it in my hands despite the car leaving the factory last friday. I guess i'm still looking for that false hope from these threads lol.

The RAM module is for the sound system which every G8X has.

Stop sale doesn't show up on mybmw. You can call Genius when your car has been dispatched from the factory to find out about the stop sale. It may take couple of days after it has been dispatched from factory for the stop sale to show up. You can call your dealer as well.

Adding less tech lowers your chances for having a stop sale, but if it's a standard item like the audio system then you're out of luck.

Ask your dealer for your planned production date.

I went 150 on Sep 30th and my planned production date is Oct 8th.

This date usually is very accurate and this is the day your car will complete final assembly/quality control (status 160).

I am not sure how they plan these dates but I seen some people in the Week 40 thread that went 150 a week before me get a later planned production date... so it's a bit strange how it works.

But from what I have seen in other threads, builds typically do complete on this planned production date so to that's the one to go by.

Btw once you reach status 151 (exterior assembly begins) the car will be done in 4 days (I am hoping to go 151 either today or tomorrow).

Same here. ‘Production begins’ occurred for me September 16; ‘exterior body assembly begins’ occurred September 27. The car progressed to ‘in the paint booth’ September 29 and ‘assembly in progress’ October 1. It’s scheduled to be completed today.
