It makes me so happy to hear this is legit. Can't wait for someone to 100% confirm it. The only other tech feature I wish the base models had was the digital key. I'd love to ditch my key fob and just use my phone as a key.

Believe it's 200 less for removal of wireless charging and wifi hotspot

That impacted comp and base and is a newer thing. Originally exec package was $200 less for base due to base not having remote start

It works!!! Just go through the process and steps between the car, app and your desktop.

Awesome! Assuming the car has to be left in neutral?

Haven’t tried it in gear but assume it would need to be in neutral. I’m confident the app would send you a “fail” if you had it in gear.

So what happens if you try to start when the car is in gear?

Hmmm. The last car I had with remote start used the fob, so it was kind of useless since you had to be rather close to the car for it to work. Using the app would solve that problem. It is freakin' hot here this summer, so I'm tempted, but I'm also not real keen on having the car idle for a few minutes like that. Although I guess it would also be a benefit in the winter. My M4 is my DD.

Can also confirm remote start working on 6MT.

The 2 ways to use it I have discovered:

1. mybmw app using climitization schedule or

2. you can use the fob by pressing lock button 3 times and holding on 3rd pres for 2 seconds, same to stop the engine.

I like this alot and would have added at purchase if it was available. At least we have it now.

Wow, I'm surprised BMW decided to offer it on the base w/ 6MT!!
During the summer, cars get scorching hot right before leaving work and I think this will be a good option to have.

For (2), the key fob obviously has to be in range of the car, right? The app is currently a bit annoying, I'm looking for a quicker way to start the engine when I am about to leave work...something like an iphone shortcut. I don't think this is possible, yet.

For OP, am 6mt.

[EDIT] Remote start will not work immediately! You must force the car to search for a software update after purchase and wait for it to download. Afterwards turn it on in the climate menu. There is an issue with using the remote start immediately through the app by hitting the climatize button, but you can bypass this by sending your vehicle a climatize at a certain time request 10 minutes ahead of the current time. It will start immediately. Or use the key.
Update, got the climatize button working just fine on the app. Turns out I had my OBDLink CX plugged in and the car is very sensitive to this when attempting remote start ONLY from this button. Every other method worked fine including from the fob. Unplugged it because I noticed it was there and voila, it works just fine.

Yes the key fob has to be in range. With the app, the timer seems to default to 9am, however, setting the departure time about ten minutes ahead will start it right away. One thing I learned is your fuel level has to be greater than 50% or it will send the request to start (shows success in remote history) but will not actually start. A message that fuel is too low and failed to start would be nice for an enhancement request.

Go to my garage then click on your cars profile then click shop connected drive store. In there you will see the option for remote start.

This is their very surprising response given that people on this forum have reported buying it and then actually using it with a manual transmission car!?!?!

Dear Customer,

Thank you for contacting BMW Assist Customer Care.

This communication was sent out to some customer/vehicles that were not in fact eligible for this feature. We apologize for the inconvenience.

The Remote Engine Start feature is available for purchase on most model year 2019 and newer vehicles with an automatic transmission, a 4 or 6 cylinder internal combustion engine, and an active ConnectedDrive account linked to the vehicle.

Should you have further questions or need additional information, you may reply directly to this e-mail. Our days of operation are Monday-Friday; 8:30 AM-5:30 PM EST.
