Not sure if anyone else got an email but it appears that the connect drive will allow me to purchase remote start for my base model m3
Any chance this is possible or just an error in the website |

I received the same email today for my 6MT.
Can anyone confirm it works? If it does, I wonder if the Apple car key will as well. I remember someone mentioning in the forum that feature only works with the remote start function. |

I never park my manual without it being in gear (never trusted a BMW handbrake over the 30+ years experience i have with them). How would a remote starter work with a manual in that case

I still would prefer a handbrake over the electronic one |

I have never either. If it truly works for a manual car then I'm assuming it won't start if the car is in gear. If it does start while in gear then it'll just stall.

I'm not sure how this would work, but there are aftermarket remote start modules, for manual transmissions. They all have a sequence, which involves the car being in neutral, and the emergency brake on. Then you exit the car, and close the door, and lock it, and walk away, then the car shuts off. If you open the door, the sequence is broken. You have to remote start the car. Or get in it, and push the button. Im not saying this is how BMWs works, but you get the idea how a manual remote start sequence would work.

Neutral safety switch. The same switch that makes you push the clutch in to start the car.

For OP, am 6mt. [EDIT] Remote start will not work immediately! You must force the car to search for a software update after purchase and wait for it to download. Afterwards turn it on in the climate menu. There is an issue with using the remote start immediately through the app by hitting the climatize button, but you can bypass this by sending your vehicle a climatize at a certain time request 10 minutes ahead of the current time. It will start immediately. Or use the key. |

With a "real" handbrake a bit easier mentally, but still would train myself to leave the 4th gear if any so that it wouldn't jump to far when accidentally started. Overall it is awesome that we have that option. In warmer climates it comes very handy🥲🥲 Been so jealous of my wife's car |

For what help this may be, I called and spoke to remote services at BMW NA and they said that the feature is available and legit for the G80/82 M3 - 6MT. However, they also told me that they had gotten several calls about it after purchase that the feature although purchased had not activated. What they said was after purchase, you need to drive the M3 around for awhile in order to trigger the update and then you can activate remote start...YMMV

Great that they have this, but also super annoying it wasn't included from the start. It's supposed to be part of the exec package. From memory the exec package was $200 less on 6MT to account for no remote start, but then they let you add it afterwards for one low low payment of $330. Bizarre.
