Hope everyone is off to a great week!

I'm coming in from the G05 forum. My current lease is up in May, and I've been wondering what to get next.

Given the chip shortage and prolonged wait times, I wanted to check in and see what wait times others have been experiencing (if any)?

I'm interested in ordering an M4 Comp Convertible basically loaded it up. Was slightly enticed by the 911 S convertible, but an M4 is faster and 50k cheaper(!). The 911 wait time is basically at 8 months.

Also, my build code is ELC937BI, frozen portimao blue over the kyalami orange M carbon buckets, black wheels, and all the options except carbon brakes (not tracking).

So actual production used to be about 3 months from allocation, but it looks like BMW experiencing more and more shortages start cutting limits for dealers.
Also many many people have cars in the US already but with stop sales, because of shortages - BMW sending card w/o some parts to US and people have to wait until part will arrive at VPC and installed on the car. Some people waiting for 90 days for the part.

Based on my observing I would not expect the car to be ready for you for pickup earlier than 5 months from the deposit date.

This is quite helpful. Times have changed. My X5 order in 2019 went from order submitted to built and at dealer lot within about 2.5 weeks.

Car came off the line on the line & ready for transport on the 19th. Dealer expects to deliver it in NC on November 19th.

It's still too early for you to know if you car has any stop sales on it. Mine hit day 2-3 at the port in Germany.

Someone had posted a URL in one of these threads about the stop sale engine bearings. You could look your car up by VIN. Was not the USA site, one was in the UK not sure where the other one was.

The UK site had my car listed, the USA site did not. At some point last week the UK site blocked the URL for car status. Maybe too much traffic. Don't know if it came back up.

You should be able to find it as its a pretty currant topic. Would search the big engine stop sale thread first. Will look in my history to see if I still have it.

Yes, thanks. Been tracking the engine issue. Mine is a G83, and it looks like only those produced in June have the engine issue. Mine was completed in September

I was originally Week 40 and now I believe I have been bumped to Week 41 (next week). I won't bank on it...

Car shipped but RAM item still shows missing on the UK site. Car will arrive in Charleston SC.

If the RAM unit is still actually missing I think it will be repaired there in the ports shop. Might be another hold on the car at that point.

BTW how do you find the ships name for tracking?

From that timeline, a 3 month wait isn't too long. Guess for a lease that's up in May, I might start the process in February/March.

Though, admittedly, I am eying that new SL Merc is releasing. If the SL55 is priced around 100k, and BMW leasing continues to be terrible, I might switch to a finance and get a lightly optioned SL instead. My potential M4 build is at $110K at the moment.

The new SL55 will be starting at $120k. I guess if you want the luxury, and you can find one, the SL may be the way to go, but the price is going to creep up fast.

Mercedes isn't ready to say how much the SL will start at when it hits dealers in the first half of 2022, but we can make some educated guesses. Expect the SL55 to cost around $120,000, splitting the difference between the outgoing SL550 and the AMG GT roadster, while the SL63 should start close to $165,000.

Mine is the opposite. E-mailed G83 specs late July, received a allocation September 26th for a week 41 build. Completed around October 14. Now crossing the Atlantic on the Hamilton, into Port of Charleston around November 12th.

Wasn't expecting this fast. I'm not going to worry about the stop sale BS, as BMW NA wants to release the cars quickly so the dealership can be invoiced.

End of the day it depends on your prior BMW dealership relationship.
